What to expect on this role

As a Principal Java Engineer with a hands-on focus on payments projects within our fintech company, you will be deeply involved in the technical implementation of payment processing systems. Expect to lead by example, actively participating in the development lifecycle while guiding and mentoring the team to ensure the successful delivery of payment solutions. You will leverage your expertise to architect robust, scalable, and secure payment systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and meet the unique challenges of the payments domain.

Qualifications and Tech Proficiency

  • Proficiency in Java programming language with a proven track record of hands-on development in payment-related projects. You should be able to demonstrate proficiency in writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive them to resolution.

  • In-depth understanding of payment processing technologies, protocols, and standards. Experience with tokenization, and other payment-related concepts is essential.

  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on approach to technical problem-solving. You should be capable of guiding the team through complex technical challenges, making architectural decisions, and driving the implementation of best practices.

  • Thorough knowledge of security principles and compliance requirements relevant to payment systems. Experience implementing security measures such as encryption, secure authentication, and compliance with regulatory standards like PCI DSS is critical.

  • Proficiency in microservices architecture, event-driven design, and distributed systems is highly desirable.

  • Expertise in database design, optimization, and management, particularly with both relational and NoSQL databases is important for designing efficient data storage solutions.

  • Strong skills in integrating with third-party payment providers, gateways, and APIs. Familiarity with industry-standard payment APIs.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization. You should be able to articulate technical concepts clearly and engage in constructive discussions to drive consensus.

  • Experience with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) tools, such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or GitLab CI/CD.
