Role Purpose
As a Data Platform Senior Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our data infrastructure, systems, and processes. You will lead a team of data professionals responsible for data acquisition, integration, quality assurance, and governance, ensuring the reliability, integrity, and accessibility of our data assets to support business operations and strategic initiatives. Data Operations including data ingestion, data integrations workflow and release deployments. This position will help us manage and monitor these processes for day-to-day operational continuity.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Data Operations Management: Oversee the management and maintenance of data operations, including deployments, workflows, databases, data warehouses and data lakes ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Data Operations Monitoring: Establish monitoring and alerting mechanisms to proactively monitor the health and performance of data operations, identifying and addressing issues and optimizing resource utilization.
- Data Operations Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline and optimize data operations processes, workflows, and tools, leveraging automation, technology solutions, and best practices to improve efficiency, agility, and scalability.
- Performance Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the performance, availability, and reliability of data operations processes and systems, producing regular reports and dashboards to track progress and communicate insights to stakeholders and management.
- Data Integration: Design and implement data integration pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from diverse sources, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability across systems and applications.
- Data Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce data quality standards, policies, and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness of data across systems and processes, implementing data quality monitoring and remediation measures as needed.
- Data Governance: Develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices for data privacy, security, and confidentiality.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of data operations professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning, and development.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements, priorities, and challenges, and align data operations initiatives with business objectives and strategic initiatives.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks and issues related to data operations, proactively addressing challenges and obstacles to ensure the integrity, security, and availability of critical data assets.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data operations capabilities, processes, and systems, soliciting feedback, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions:
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
- Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
- Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
- Environment where pets are present.
Experience, Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Preferred: Certification in relevant data management or cloud computing technologies (e.g., Azure Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
- Preferred: Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments and implementing CI/CD pipelines for data platform deployment and automation.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in data operations, data management, or related roles, with a focus on data infrastructure, integration, quality assurance, and governance.
- Strong understanding of data management concepts, principles, and best practices, including data modeling, data warehousing, ETL processes, data quality, and data governance.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) for data querying, manipulation, and analysis.
- Experience with data integration tools and technologies (e.g., Informatica, Talend, SSIS, ADF) for data acquisition, transformation, and loading processes.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience with cloud-based data storage, processing, and analytics solutions (e.g., Databricks).
- Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of data professionals, set clear goals and expectations, and drive performance and results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data operations challenges, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, build consensus, and influence decision-making.
- Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.
Salary: $130,000 – $190,000
