Job Description
This position assists the Manager, Security & Life Safety in overseeing the day-to-day functioning of Security and Life Safety operations including the overall safety and security of tenants, staff, contractors and public at the First Canadian Place block (FCP) consisting of over 4 million square feet of commercial office space including First Canadian Place, Exchange Tower and Northbridge Place.
This role will help ensure compliance as determined by Brookfield Properties and Government Regulations by applying Security Risk Management principles to mitigate risks, protect assets, as well as the Brookfield “brand”.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain tenant relationships, meet with tenants regularly, review all tenant billing and reports
- Manage card access systems, CCTV applications, and other departmental technical applications as required
- Order inventories and obtain tendered quotes for Life Safety, Security and Health and Safety. Create purchase orders as required
- Regularly edit and distribute reports to department managers
- Prepare and coordinate Emergency Preparedness trainings
- Prepare and coordinate Fire Wardens trainings
Compliance:
- Monitor and coordinate inspection and maintenance of Life Safety & Security Systems and procedures
- Ensure compliance with all local, provincial, & Federal laws pertaining to Life Safety, Health & Safety & Security
- Design, create and implement policy and procedures to ensure that the best safety practices are being followed
- Research new technologies or practices to ensure that complex stays current with industry standards
- Maintain policy and training documents to establish due diligence
- Plan and assists with annual fire evacuation exercises. Provide training for all occupants, including tenants, staff and contract service providers
- Initiate or follow-up investigations to theft, Life Safety, Health & Safety or Liability occurrences on the property as directed and make corrective recommendations
- Plan and assist in maintaining property operational budget and capital projects
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Assist with supervision of staff in addition to indirectly supervising up to 40 contract staff
- Train and mentor contract site supervisor and other Security & Life Safety staff members
- Provide adequate training to staff to ensure duties are performed safely and effectively
- Provide and/or facilitate education and training to tenants, staff and contractors to create a safe and secure environment
- Coordinate and supervise operations in Manager’s absence
- Must be prepared in case of emergencies: carry cellphone and 24-hour emergency contact information
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including various shifts and after hours
QUALIFICATIONS
SERVICE / PERSONAL SKILLS:
This position requires a dedicated team player with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary in addition to a professional telephone manner. Organizational, time management, multi-tasking and presentation skills are essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities; including the ability to supervise, develop and motivate staff as required. Proven problem solving, dispute resolution, prioritization and decision-making skills are needed in order to perform successfully in the role.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Minimum of 5 years direct experience in security and life safety is required
- Knowledge of current security industry practices is required
- Experience with security and life safety issues in a high-rise commercial office building is preferred
- Experience working with budgets and related processes is preferred
- Experience in Emergency Management
- Experience with JHSCAbility to read and interpret Federal and Provincial legislation: Criminal Code; Trespass to Property Act; Occupational Health & Safety Act; Workplace Safety & Insurance Act; Canadian & Ontario Building Code; Fire Code
- At minimum, an intermediate skill level in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Access, as well as Adobe and the Internet is required
- Knowledge of CCURE 9000 is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Genetec is considered an asset
EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES:
- Post-Secondary education in Security or related discipline is required
- Post-Secondary education in fire protection or related discipline is an asset
- Post-Secondary education in Emergency Management or related discipline is an asset
- Certified Member under the Occupation Health & Safety Act
- CPP, PSP, and or CPTED Certification is an asset
