The Vice President of Residential Lending provides oversight, strategic direction and responsibility for the member mortgage borrowing experience for all aspects of WSECU’s residential lending activities, including the Mortgage Sales Team, Operations (underwriting, processing, closing, secondary market and post-funding) along with the execution of the credit union’s risk strategy through underwriting.

The Vice President will drive the mortgage lending origination strategies and business plan with the support of direct reports, who will manage the day-to-day operations and delivery of service in each department. This position strategically seeks opportunities to support our Homeownership Initiative designed to successfully meet the needs of low-to-moderate income and BIPOC families, helping them achieve the dream of homeownership. They will assess workflows through a strategic lens, leading to results in streamlined and simplified processes that improve the member experience, creating operational scalability during production peaks, and improving ROI on mortgage originations.

As the VP of Residential Lending, your day might include:

Development, oversight, and implementation of the annual Residential Lending strategy and Business Plan. Overseeing productivity and workflow efficiencies of all residential lending programs, sales team activities and back-office operations. Providing strong leadership to managers in each area of responsibility through regular coaching, evaluations, employee development and training. Practices consistent management routines. Identifying ROI opportunities and process improvements to advance member service. Developing and implementing lending policies and underwriting guidelines to ensure quality and integrity of loan portfolio. Recommending new mortgage products and pricing strategies to meet current and future member needs. Manages product margins while maintaining the quality of the mortgage loan portfolio. Ensuring achievement of service level standards, specifically Voice of Member and Service to Co-worker Surveys. Maintaining knowledge of the mortgage landscape to ensure WSECU’s lending programs remain relevant. Assuring compliance with state and federal laws. Recommending and oversees related budgeting of revenue, expense and production projections. Partnering with the Marketing Department to drive results toward meeting production goals. Collaborating with all areas of the credit union and external business partners to accomplish strategic goals and ensure the appropriate levels of compliance and service.

What you bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, with at least ten years of mortgage lending experience (minimum running a $50 million/month mortgage shop), including at least five years at the management/executive level with a well-rounded emphasis in several of the following areas:  origination, secondary markets, servicing, processing, underwriting, and mortgage sales. Related experience may be substituted year for year for academic achievement.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, project management, problem solving and decision-making skills required.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to drive high quality loan growth through lending products and delivery channels and superior member service.
  • Thorough knowledge of all state and federal regulations pertaining to mortgage loans.
  • Proficiency in PC software, including Microsoft programs and standard lending systems and the ability to learn credit union-specific operating systems and programs.
  • Budgeting and strong presentation experience.

Preferred:

  • Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation
  • Proven experience in deployment of specialty loan programs, such as ITIN Loans, Land Trusts, Construction Loans, Down Payment Assistance, Special Purpose Credit Programs, etc.

Competitive Base Pay Range: $157,343.19 - $262,238.65 annually, dependent on relevant qualifications, plus an annual discretionary incentive plan and benefits package

  • The range above allows our employees room for growth through annual merit and other pay increases during their tenure in the position.
  • The target range for qualified new hires is typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.

Where we’re located: 330 Union Ave, Olympia WA. Employee must reside and perform all work in the state of Washington. This is a hybrid position that blends working in-office and from home. Works onsite in Olympia Headquarters at least 2 occasions per week, Wednesdays and one other day per week, with flexibility to report onsite more often for business needs.

When you’d work: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm, full time minimum 40 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility to meet service needs for this Exempt position.
