Job Summary:

Caterpillar is seeking a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Engineer for our Platform Services team within Caterpillar IT.  In this role, the incumbent will work alongside architects and business partners to execute a build-out of GCP, with specific focus on security, privacy, and compliance activities.  You will work daily with Technology and Software Platform teams to provide solutions using GCP. You will need to stay current with GCP technologies and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

While our team is using GCP, we are open to hiring Cloud Platform Engineers with experience in AWS or Azure.


What You Will Do:

  • Providing consulting on best practices for Google Cloud Platform. 
  • Deploying or integrating cloud technologies based on requirements gathered from customers.
  • Assisting customers with documentation, training, and usability efforts.  
  • Serve as an Enterprise Administrator for Caterpillar’s GCP environment.
  • Monitor and ensure the GCP environment at Caterpillar are secure and compliant.
  • Automate resource provisioning in GCP using Terraform.
  • Stay current with GCP technologies, and best practices and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.


What You will Have:

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Technology Advising: Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services and solutions for a specific technology domain.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Consideration for Top Candidates:

  • 3+ years of public cloud experience within an Enterprise environment – GCP (Preferred), AWS, Azure
  • 2+ years of experience working with Google Cloud Identity Platform (or equivalent AWS or Azure experience) in an environment that enforced roles based access controls and least-privilege access. 
  • Preferred experience with GCP services, including Cloud Run, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, IAM, AI, and Cloud Storage.
  • Knowledge of Cloud security standards and principles including Identity and Access management.
  • Experience with data warehousing technologies, such as BigQuery or Snowflake. 
  • Experience in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
  • Associate-Level Cloud Certification (GCP, AWS, Azure) 
  • Experience with Azure DevOps

Additional Details:

This position has the option to be based out of either our Peoria, IL; Nashville, TN; or Irving, TX (Dallas) offices with a flexible hybrid work environment.
