As a Software Engineer I at AoPS, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem-solvers of the next generation.  In this role, you will develop and maintain both new and existing software programs, enhancing our ability to offer top-notch educational tools and resources. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and implement new software programs.
  • Test, evaluate, and code review others’ programs.
  • Learn about and maintain existing programs and identify potential improvements to existing programs.
  • Document new and existing programs in various formats (in code, alongside code review, and outside of code).
  • Work closely with Engineering Leadership and other team members to maintain best development, testing, review, and deployment practices.
  • Work closely with Product Owners, Designers, and other stakeholders to collaborate on product/development strategy and create program specifications.
  • Estimate and clearly communicate development timelines, roadblocks, and development status.
  • Complete other tasks and responsibilities, as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and creative skills
  • Knowledge of programming and debugging fundamentals in at least one language
  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Web development experience with JavaScript, React, PHP, Node.js, MySQL, or PostgreSQL preferred
