Position Title: Controls Engineer – Machining Operations

Position Overview: We are seeking a Controls Engineer to provide electrical control support for our Heavy Duty Engine (HDE) Machining Operations. This role focuses on ensuring the continuous functionality of machining lines for engine components, including blocks, connecting rods, heads, and liners, as well as turbo machining and assembly processes. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with maintenance supervisors, mechanical engineers, skilled trades, and the operations and quality teams to maintain all machining equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnose, modify, and support hardware and software for PLCs, CNCs, HMIs, and robotic systems.
Manage and troubleshoot device-level networks.
Support and enhance servo systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
Implement and maintain machining monitoring systems, ensuring integration with higher-level systems.
Apply control technologies to existing and new processes to optimize machining efficiency.
Specify and assist in control system designs for the acquisition of new machining equipment.
Provide technical assistance and support for machining operations.
Collaborate with skilled trades, supervisors, and process engineers to diagnose and repair CNC and assembly operations.
Aid skilled trades personnel in interpreting technical drawings and OEM documentation for troubleshooting and repairs.
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field; or 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment hardware and software design standards, including PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, robotics, and vision systems.
Familiarity with PC hardware and commercially available software.
Knowledge of network and database operations, as well as electrical codes and standards.
Understanding of safety regulations and standards.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Capability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings related to facility infrastructure and testing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Siemens Step 7 PLCs/TIA Portal, Siemens 840D NC programming, and Siemens VFDs and servo systems.
Knowledge of Fanuc robots, Cognex vision systems, and Trumpf laser technology.
Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs, VFDs, and servo systems.
Understanding of fluid systems, including pneumatic, hydraulic, coolant, and lubrication processes.
Insight into metal cutting, press force monitoring, part marking, fastening, washing, and filtering manufacturing processes.
Experience with Maximo, SAP, and Outlook.

 

Salary Range: $70,000-90,000

The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
