BB (Business Banking) Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.
You’ll be part of HV & IP (High Value & International Payments) crew under Payments domain. Our purpose is to restore the trust of our customers by transforming the Payments services experiences provided by the Bank to 99.999% availability, greater agility and reliability. Our team is composed of engineers and technology leaders, who bring in the right mix of skills to enable this transformation. We also work very closely with our business and operations colleagues to support these services which are critical to the Australian and Global economy. Our team also works with various Business units of the bank in adhering to the Engineering and Tooling Standards, Delivering Continuous improvements using Cloud and AI.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be working within a cross-functional squad responsible for the technical design, development, and rollout of key enhancements to our end-users. You’re constantly pushing the boundaries to help deliver outcomes that define future industry trends and your passion for outstanding user experience and ability to solve complex problems is key to developing high quality technical solutions. Also, you will be a strong advocate for best practices, capable of challenging and being challenged, to deliver the best technical solutions for our customers. With your rich blend of skillsets, you will contribute to the systems end-to-end as well as manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing.

Have experience with the Full-cycle development and delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following: Java, API design

Are constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex technical problems.
Can coach junior engineers, share knowledge to uplift and improve software development practices.

Tech Skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:
Payments domain experience is essential
Backend - Java, Spring Suite
Expertise with Microservices Architecture, Rest API and Design pattern
Strong understanding of Service oriented architecture and interfaces
Working knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes and Helm Charts
DevOps and CI/CD tools – TeamCity, GitHub, GitHub actions
Exposure to Security tools like SonarQube, Checkmarx would be an advantage.
Observability – Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics
DB programming knowledge on Oracle SQL, Postgres SQL
Any experience with the following would be great - ISO20022 message formats, Finastra - Global Pay Plus (GPP)
