Commodity Manager
In this position you will be responsible for developing and executing commodity strategies for driving supplier development across multiple commodity categories in support of our business. Establishing contracting and negotiation approaches to ensure timely supply of materials which is beneficial for the company and the supplier is critical. Commodities include commercial off-the-shelf communications equipment and fabricated parts including custom sheet metal, cables and machined parts in support of the company’s product lines and resell side of the business. This is a fast-paced working environment with multiple competing priorities. The successful candidate will know how to coordinate and communicate among the various customer groups to achieve all of the desired purchasing priorities.

Your Challenge:
Establish a commodity strategy approach to our supply chain efforts, driving effective execution from the suppliers
Create and manage a supplier development plan to monitor, measure, and communicate the status of key supplier’s performance in support of our business
Apply strong contracting and negotiation approaches, appropriate for the types and size of suppliers, to ensure continuous material availability needed in support of our customers’ demand
Maintain advanced knowledge of industry and market dynamics for commodities to drive solutions in advance of our requirements
Coordinate supplier selection, consolidation, or diversification to confidently meet our needs
Perform purchasing of parts to support resale and PacStar product line including custom sheet metal, cables and machined parts in support of the company’s proprietary products.
Initiate RFQs/RFPs, review bids, negotiate terms and pricing for materials
Identify and resolve purchasing problems/concerns; follow up to ensure timely and accurate product delivery
Works directly with Purchasing Manager and Scheduling & Production teams to strengthen the performance of supply chain
Works with Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineer to ensure supplier capabilities and performance is achieving the required level for the supplied materials
Works with Supplier Quality Engineering and Engineering to qualify new suppliers.
Works with Supplier Quality Engineering and Engineering to perform on going supplier quality audits.
Communicates with Manager and Scheduling when there are significant delivery challenges
Correspond with suppliers regarding current status of purchase orders
Strongly coordinates with Purchasing Manager
Evaluates, maintains and produces periodic reports on supplier performance, supply chain effectiveness and improvements; presents this to management as appropriate
Communicate with other departments including sales, production, warehouse and credit/billing
Performance requires physical attendance
Ensure adherence to established government and company policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs and safety standards
Other duties as assigned
What you bring:
Min 4+ years’ experience in strategic commodity management with 5+ additional years’ experience with purchasing/scheduling for both commercial off-the-shelf and custom fabricated parts including sheet metal, plastics, cables, and machined parts
Ability to assess supplier performance and recommend/drive strategies to make improvements
Ability to implement supplier metrics to objectively evaluate and communicate their performance
Ability to quickly learn the company’s purchasing and inventory processes and procedures and recommend areas where improvements can be implemented
Experience with Sage and/or SAP ERP/MRP software systems
Proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically excel
Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a cross-functional team and knows when to ask for guidance. Can liaise across departments to solve problems
Ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver on key deadlines
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
Ability to detect/analyze and help resolve problems and report information to appropriate personnel
Ability to work both independently and in a cross-functional team environment
Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing both internally and externally
Can do attitude
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Accuracy and attention to detail is a must
Must be able to self-organize workloads and manage all deadlines
Experience in AS9100 QMS environment is strongly desired
APICS/CPM certification desired
Knowledge of accounting procedures involving procurement and planning preferred
