Northrop Grumman Weapon Systems, Missile Products Business Unit with an office located in Ronkonkoma, New York is a provider of research, development, test and evaluation services to the aerospace and defense industry, specializing in the development of advanced AeroPropulsion and structural systems.

The Ronkonkoma, New York site is currently seeking a Test Project Engineer within the Test Engineering Department to support the wind tunnel test facility testing capabilities in support of Ramjet and Scramjet Propulsion programs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support efforts to develop ramjet and scramjet programs and internal research/development activities through the integration of customer test hardware and test execution support.

  • Support IPT leads to ensure technical, schedule and budget execution of propulsion hardware integration and subsystem builds.

  • Support propulsion and subsystem test program hardware integration in the test cell.

  • Work with IPT leads and Test Engineers to establish product build requirements (i.e. engineering, planning and inspection documents).

  • Support fluid system design in support of testing requirements, includes schematic generation, hardware specification and technician support for installation and checkouts.

  • Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, specifications, and accuracy of dimensioning.

  • Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, contractual specification requirements and cost, and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Assist with preparing and presenting preliminary, critical and test readiness reviews in support of test programs.

Basic Qualifications Test Engineer 2:

This position emphasizes skills and experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, preferably in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering plus 2 years’ experience in a related field or a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with zero years of experienceAbility to obtain a Secret Clearance, which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills.

  • Must be able to work effectively in a hands on, dynamic laboratory setting with a diverse technical team environment characterized by frequently changing tasks, new priorities, and quick responses.

  • Experience with propulsion laboratory test system design, hardware integration and support.

  • Experience in designing fluid delivery and control systems, component specification, failure analysis and communication of requirements to technician staff.

  • Experience in reading and understanding fluid system schematics, mechanical drawings, and parts lists.

  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry with strict customer/process requirements.

  • A high degree of computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), familiarity with Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, NX, AutoCAD and other drawing packages

  • Knowledge of ANSI Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Knowledge of general machine shop fabrication processes

  • Knowledge of Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing (DFA/DFM).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with laboratory test system design, hardware integration and support.

  • Experience in designing fluid system design, component selection and flow calculations

  • Must have good communication skills and be able to write and deliver presentations in front of senior management and customers.

  • Comfort with hands on interaction with various test hardware and tooling, instrumentation and facility support piping systems such as Hydrogen, Oxygen and fuel

  • Current Active Security Clearance

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing processes

Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
