This is an entry-level technical security role with the expectation that you understand security tools, system security, secure application design principles, cloud security, compliance, and incident response. The primary duties for the role will include responding to requests in the security queue, investigating incidents and alerts, reviewing phishing reports, and assisting the team in the delivering projects and improvements to the security program. You will be encouraged to keep your skills up to date by attending at least one major training course annually (SANS, etc.), one major security conference (Blackhat, DefCon, etc.), and other events.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze security alerts, work security tickets, and interact with the company user base regularly while performing these tasks.
  • Resolve all security tickets in a timely manner.
  • Respond to incoming requests from external and internal parties for information concerning Amherst’s information security practices
  • Assist in the review of vendor IT (Information Technology) security programs and controls
  • Monitor compliance with the organization's information security policies and procedures among employees, contractors and third parties while triaging events of interest
  • Work with Enterprise IT and Developers to reduce security risks of internally developed or managed services
  • Provides cyber security awareness and other training to end users and system owners as needed

About You:

  • At least 1 year of experience in enterprise IT
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excited about emerging security technology and developing industry trends
  • Comfortable in fast-paced and dynamic environments
  • Up to date on security trends with a basic understanding of IT security operations.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in a technical field such as Computer Science is preferred, entry level Security Certification (SEC+) is the minimum requirement.
  • Basic knowledge of NIST (National Institute of Standards) (800-53, CSF (Cybersecurity Framework)) and other information security frameworks;
  • Basic experience with Cloud-based platforms (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and technologies
