This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

  

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, machinists, and engineers, you will work closely with engineering design to support all manufacturing efforts for machined components on mills, lathes and multi axis machines for various Blue Origin engine components. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into work instructions that will produce high quality hardware.  Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize the build sequence and schedules. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify, develop, and deploy or refine manufacturing methods to improve quality, reduce cost and optimize build schedules.

  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional, high quality machined components.

  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define manufacturing process.

  • Define how to set up hardware for machining on mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines

  • Conduct DFM and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and machining.

  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.

  • Define and support repair and rework activities for machined components.

  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.

  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.

  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire machining process.

  • Safely work within an industrial environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.

  • +3 years of direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures and provide feedback.

  • Experience with DFM and PFMEA studies.

  • Strong aptitude for mechanical system design and hands-on machining experience

  • Proficient with developing tooling and work holding fixtures to support machining processes.

  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.

  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).

  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.

  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with fabrication special processes (machining, grinding, forging, welding, casting, forming, rolling etc.)

  • Experience with hard and exotic metals

  • Proficient with applicable industry standards

  • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite development, production, or operations

  • Self-directed and able to balance several tasks at once

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs.

  • Experience with CNC programming.
