What you'll do...

Our Data Science team is building a first-in-class platform of tools and services covering high-performance computing, ML training services, DevOps, model deployment, and metadata capture. Our goal is to decrease AI/ML development/training cycle time and raise the quality bar on AI/ML's shipped services by drastically simplifying the process of AI/ML Engineering.

This is a hands-on position where you will be empowered to be creative, ambitious, and bold.  Our mission on the Data Science team is to provide deep computing expertise, automated workflows, production-grade infrastructure, and helpful tooling to enable the AI/ML team and our partners to solve cutting-edge research problems in the retail space and translate their solutions into a direct impact on the business and on members.  The role is a people leader and technical thought leader in data science practices, MLOps and HPC.

What you'll do:

  • Responsibilities
    • Lead a team of up to 10 ML Engineers to develop and implement MLOps-enabled models.
    • Define, evangelize and implement a strategy to drive feature store adoption across the organization.
    • Defines MLOps processes and assists product teams with adoption
    • Assists in outlining new product/service business case justification to ensure that proposed solution can deliver articulated business benefits to clients and business stakeholders
    • Works closely with the Product Manager, Data Scientists and architects to design our end-to-end Applied Intelligence solution, including areas such as data engineering, advanced analytics, visualization and reporting, maintaining platform integrity and leveraging pre-engineered components, where appropriate
    • Identifies use cases for innovative R&D approaches to solving major Machine Learning (ML) or Artificial Intelligence (AI) challenges
    • Design, develop, architect and deploy enterprise solutions
    • Employ AI/ML architectural knowledge as well as standard DevOps pipelines to achieve data science objectives (e.g., developing a feature store, training/deploying ML models, etc.)
    • Implement standard DevOps tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, etc.)
    • Keep abreast of AI/ML developments to provide sustainable architectural mentorship
    • Recommend appropriate technologies/applications to enable strategic data management, model management, and risk considerations
    • Ensure platform is scalable, reliable, and performant
    • Engage with product owners, product managers, technical anchors and other PDO team SMEs
    • Collaborate with other architects and the technology delivery team to define architectural approaches/solutions
    • Work closely with architect team to validate, influence and present the new architectural improvements

What you'll bring:

  • Required
    • 2+ years of people management experience
    • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related field
    • Expertise in software development
    • Possesses deep understanding of Data and Analytics, Visualization, AI/ML techniques, data management and governance, DevOps/MLOps best practices, and proven experience in designing, implementing and deploying complex, large-scale solution in these areas
    • Experience in building batch and streaming data pipelines
    • Experience working in Agile/Scrum setup
    • Proficiency in Spark, Java/Scala, Hadoop, Kafka, Python
    • Solid experience of SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
    • Experience in developing solution strategies and defining functional and technical features and designing the products and its configurations, with ability to work with vendors, and leading technologies
    • Experience with product development life cycle, product and platform configurations, and business processes as they impact overall product plans
    • Experience working with development and deployment tools, processes, approaches and/or techniques
    • Experience in creating compelling and articulate arguments to Senior Leadership when presenting or negotiating on projects
    • Expert command of the English language, semantics, vocabulary and grammar
    • Knowledge in a broad spectrum of architecture domains including Data Architecture, Infrastructure Architecture, Application Architecture, Security Architecture, and Integration Architecture
    • Expert in cloud and infrastructure - K8S, serverless, API, NoSQL
    • Hands on experience in defining CI/CD pipelines for enterprises e.g. Concord/Jenkins/etc.
    • Excellent team player. Work effectively with peers and across teams.
    • Great communication skills and the ability to lead junior team members
    • Experience deploying applications in GCP and Azure
  • Nice to Have
    • Ability to lead/identify business requirements and determine operational impacts and needed system changes
    • Knowledge of project management processes
    • Senior-level, large-scale project experience incorporating all levels of architecture development
    • In-depth understanding of business/technical concepts in multiple specialized fields
    • Knowledge of infrastructure architecture, including servers, SAN, networking, firewalls, database and middleware
    • Background in open-source products in the dev ops and machine learning space
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Knowledge of architecture standards and how they relate to our data science products
    • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
    • Ability to research a technology and provide insight to business customers
