Title: Benefits Specialist – Leave of Absence
Location: Ashburn, VA Hybrid
Job Summary
The Benefits Analyst – Leave of Absence is responsible for supporting managers and employees regarding leave administration activities including supporting leave of absence and return to work, life-cycle transactions associated with FMLA, ADA, PFL, STD, LTD, ADA and Workers Compensation. The main area of responsibility is to serve as a resource to management and employees in solving day-to-day workplace matters.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Administers and coordinates family and medical leave, family illness requests, absences, activities, and requests for all employees, ensuring fairness and consistency of policy and practice.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for managers, employees, HR, and payroll throughout the leave management process.
- Provides consultation to managers on policies and compliance regarding leave of absence matters, and compliance with all related policies, employment and leave laws.
- Coordinates FML with other forms of leave including Worker’s Compensation, STD, and PTO.
- Manages and collaborates with 3rd party leave and Workers’ Compensation vendor.
- Advocates for employees on leave to ensure a successful return to work.
- Creates and reviews dashboard metrics to optimize efficiency and ensure work is completed timely.
- Monitors usage within leave programs notifying manager when trend may be apparent. Suggests ideas to help reduce leave frequency and duration and expedite return to work.
- Provides reports to HR and COE’s to be used in solving people related business challenges and implementing HR strategy.
- Participates on Human Resources and/or company-wide project teams.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field; equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree.
- 4 + years of experience in leave of absence administration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to influence others on policies, practices, and procedure.
- Effective at capturing and synthesizing information from multiple parties
- Solid and hands-on understanding of leave laws
- Ability to handle sensitive and highly personal information daily and maintain confidentiality in a mature and insightful manner.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with case management preferred.
Security Requirements/Background Investigation Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
- Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees. Standing for prolonged and extended periods of time.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.
