THE ROLE
As a Materials Engineering Intern, you will assist in the planning, executing, and finalizing projects, programs, and materials according to deadlines and within budget. This internship will allow you to gain a holistic understanding of project management while allowing you to build your network through key relationships with sales, engineering, manufacturing, legal, and finance functions.
YOUR IMPACT
As a Materials Engineering Intern, you will support engineers in material characterization, failure analysis, material selection, and research projects by means such as the following:
Maintain clean, organized, and operational laboratory space, equipment, and instruments.
Use tools and equipment to disassemble and section large components/assemblies for analysis.
Section, mount, polish, and etch metallographic samples.
Document and characterize components using photography, microscopy, and fractography.
Perform microstructural interpretation of various metal alloys.
Use material characterization instruments to determine composition of metallic and nonmetallic materials.
Use testing equipment to determine physical and mechanical properties of metallic and nonmetallic materials, including tensile properties and hardness.
Monitor corrosion and environmental exposure testing, evaluate performance of coating systems.
Use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and related analytical techniques (EDS, EBSD)
Analyze test results and data to determine conformance to industry standards and/or engineering drawing specifications.
Communicate findings orally and through technical report writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Student in sophomore standing or greater working towards a degree in Materials Science Engineering or a related field.
Be willing to relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the duration of the internship.
