Overview:

The Business Data Lead position involves participating in data quality initiatives, developing and implementing data quality standards and working closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in Quality Assurance and Quality Control practices within the Commercial Insights & Analytics department. Coordinates components of the data program within an assigned area of the Bank in the areas of governance, quality, issue management, reporting, solutions, analytics, or project management, and helps to establish appropriate policies and frameworks for the function with minimal oversight from management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and possesses a deep understanding of data quality and data observability methodologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the implementation of the Data Management Program within assigned units, providing training to business line and technology personnel.
  • Participate in facilitating data management-related working groups by creating agendas and meeting materials.
  • Develop an understanding of data management practices.
  • Participate in measuring compliance with the business and Enterprise Data Management policy and standards for assigned units.
  • Work with assigned units to identify critical data elements and capture related metadata.
  • Monitor quality of data within assigned units, through measurement of enterprise-wide key performance/key risk indicators (KPIs/KRIs) to ensure effective data risk management.
  • Work to remediate data management-related issues within assigned unit.
  • Showcase the benefits of business and enterprise data management and business intelligence tools.
  • Analyze data sets to derive business insights to derive tangible business value.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated analytical ability

Creative problem solving skills

Project management leadership

Prior experience coordinating cross-functional teams

Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, graphing, and presentations with a working knowledge of financial models

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in data management, reporting and operations coordination.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodology and business process management techniques
  • Proficiency in tools such as Jira, Confluence, MS Office, Visio, SharePoint, SQL, and data visualization software such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,783.41 - $137,972.36 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
