GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. At Rotating Machines Rugby (RMR), we design and build some of the most technically advanced electrical rotating machinery in the world. We specialise in manufacturing large electrical rotating machinery: Motors and Generators, across a wide variety of industrial applications. Our motors are powering some of the most advance warships in the world, whilst our generators are decarbonising industry for a more sustainable future. The Manufacturing Readiness & Technologies Team is a part of the RMR Engineering Department and consists of a team of Manufacturing Engineers, responsible for development and implementation of new innovative manufacturing technologies.

Job Description:

The Production Operative will be involved in mechanical fitting preparing and building machines for test, then dispatch. Main duties include:

• Frame preparation - fitting instrumentation, auxiliary box's and auxiliary wiring
• Sub assembly - assembling mains and neutral terminal boxes
• Bearing assembly
• Pipe fitting
• Machine alignment
• Overhead crane driving (training provided)
• Maintaining a clean and tidy work area in line with 5S standards
• Adherence to EHS and ensuring a safe working environment

Key skills/abilities:

• Previous experience of mechanical and electrical fitting
• Ability to work to drawings and schematics with complete accuracy, understanding geometric tolerances and key symbols
• Measuring various components to tight tolerances with micrometers, verniers, bore mics, DTI gauges
• Ability to work within a team, use own initiative to meet production targets and deadlines
• Available to work shifts, specifically late shift and flexible to support overtime as required
• Ability to work to instructions and quality standards, completing quality documentation
• A can-do forward thinking approach to tasks
• Previous experience of rotating machinery would be advantageous
