The Role
We are searching for a new Line Underwriter to take the reins of our Rest of World (ROW) Kidnap and Ransom (K&R) business. This is truly one of the most dynamic roles available, offering the chance to lead and expand a core portfolio that is highly valued within Hiscox. The goal is ambitious, we are aiming to grow the account to over $50 million in premium, drive a digital transformation, and launch several significant adjacent initiatives.
We’re looking for someone who is not only a strong business leader, but who also brings credibility both inside and outside our organization. Passion for advancing this class and motivating an excellent team is essential. The ability to shape both the portfolio and the team will be central to the role’s success, with multiple distribution strategies available, from Lloyd’s E&S, to the admitted market and binders.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to become a senior underwriting leader within Hiscox London Market and leave their unique mark on the K&R and security aspects of Crisis Management. With the right vision, there’s real potential for this line to expand far beyond its current scope, offering the new Line Underwriter the chance to drive their own direction and strategy.
Key deliverables
Develop and deliver the vision, strategy and business plan for the Line.
Own and manage the P&L for Hiscox London Market.
Lead and develop a market leading team of underwriters.
Development and management of key senior level relationships with brokers, coverholders, Control Risk, Great American and key clients. Including sourcing opportunities and deals that bring significant value to Hiscox.
Maintain and further develope a world class lead position in the area, with substantial market presence and capacity and seen as a go-to leader by brokers and clients.
Working closely with the Crisis Management pricing and exposure management teams to manage exposures and maximise returns.
Manage the portfolio ensuring we are making decisions in line with our risk appetite and with regulatory obligations.
Help to shape the overall strategy and deliver the Crisis Management Division plan.
What we are looking for:
Ability to lead and develop a market leading underwriting team, including prioritising and delegating work and managing effectively and accurately under pressure.
A proven track record in relationship management and business development at a senior level.
Technical underwriting ability to analyse risk and optimal strategy for profitable underwriting management.
Digital agility and dive, embracing augmented underwriting and other future advancements in technology to make better and more efficient underwriting decisions across the middle-market portfolio.
Experience dealing with internal and external senior management, delivering messages effectively that lead to action.
Strong analytical capabilities to assess risks and demonstrate accurate judgement.
Ability to work effectively with and maximise the benefits of our Claims, Pricing and Exposure Management teams.
Adaptable and agile in thought, capable of thinking about things in a different way and identifying new approaches and concepts.
A team player who fosters a culture of collaboration and cultivates innovation.
Decisive in nature, displaying good judgement in decisions and taking accountability.
Possesses a strategic mindset, with experience in translating future possibilities into groundbreaking strategies.
A willingness to travel internationally as required and attend evening business social events as appropriate.
