Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician II performs a variety of duties in relation to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays and sets, case arts, equipment, maintains sterilization logs, instrument tracking system and supply inventory in the sterile processing department without direct supervision. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of department equipment. Participates in distribution of supplies to customers while maintaining excellent customer service.Pay Range
Minimum $22.63 Midpoint $29.99 Maximum $37.34Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.
Experience
• Required: Minimum two (2) years of Sterile Processing experience.
• Preferred: Over two (2) years of Sterile Processing experience in a Children's Hospital setting.
Education
• Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and certification from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), and/or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
Training
• Required: For associates hired prior to 5/1/2017 as level II: Technician Certification required within 2 years of employment. (CBSPD or IAHCSMM).
• Preferred: Course in medical terminology, human anatomy, microbiology, infection control, decontamination, disinfection, instrument assembly, and packaging, high-level sterilization, biological testing, and inventory management and distribution are required. Knowledge of sterilization standards/operations, autoclave operations and biological monitoring are vital.
Specialized Skills
• Required: Proficient in verbal and written English with excellent telephone and customer service skills. Ability to deal with multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment. Basic knowledge and skill of computer use and instrument tracking system. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job. Strong analytical and organization skills; strong critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail, vigilance, poise, and composure in stressful situations. Clear, concise written documentation and interpersonal communication skills.
Licensure
• Required: RQI Responder - American Heart Association - Required within six (6) months of hire/transfer; Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required within one (1) year of hire or transfer.
• Preferred: Certificate of Preceptor course.
