Mold Masters is looking for a Senior Machine Designer to join our E-Multi team in Georgetown, Ontario. As a Senior Machine Designer, you will be responsible for complete design execution of high quality, high performance, reliable and cost-effective designs for e-multi products and motion control-related products.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and innovative self-starter to be part of our growing E-Multi auxiliary injection unit team. You will lead projects through the full product development life cycle from brainstorming sessions, detailed design and analysis, prototype build and testing and product launch. You’ll be part of a fast-paced growing business producing world-class, sophisticated industrial machines for a global market.

Work You’ll Do:

  • Execute the complete design of new machines and systems using sound design principles and applicable standards, with minimal supervision.

  • Develop new product performance and sales specifications.

  • Establish and monitor key project metrics such as product cost, project costs, and schedule, and take necessary actions.

  • Lead small, multidisciplinary teams in developing new products and system-level design solutions.

  • Create concept layouts, part models, and drawings for reliable and cost-effective designs.

  • Generate complete assembly drawings and accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) for release to SAP.

  • Produce or verify engineering drawings of any complexity.

  • Actively participate in the design review process, risk assessments, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) process to ensure new product safety and performance.

  • Develop design documents, validation plans, and test reports.

  • Write product testing documents to support Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) activities.

  • Lead the assembly and testing of prototypes; provide timely and relevant project updates to management; prepare technical presentations for management and customers.

  • Review sales inquiries to recommend and quote relevant systems, and discuss potential new applications as needed.

  • Advise Technical Sales on E-Multi sizing and ensure application requirements are met.

  • Review existing patent documents and drawings, and support patent applications.

  • Lead continuous improvement and productivity enhancement activities.

  • Participate in customer and supplier visits as required.

Team:

This role will be a part of a group of five on the growing E-Multi auxiliary injection unit team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a University Degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience.

  • Must be currently licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Ontario.

  • Proficient in modeling and detailing techniques using SolidWorks 2023 or higher.

  • Advanced understanding of ASME Y14.5M drafting standards, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Prior experience as a Machine Designer is mandatory.

  • Experience with large automated machinery such as robots, presses, automatic packaging lines, CNC machinery, steel mills, etc., is a plus.

  • Must have experience in selecting and sizing various components like gearboxes, bearings, belts, seals, servo motors, bushings, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc.

  • Experience in designing and building machines with a focus on manufacturability.

  • Advanced skills in design calculations and design documentation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including technical, project, and personnel issues.

  • Advanced knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferably with ANSYS.

  • Advanced understanding of materials and manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, casting, and sheet metal.

  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance and inspection methods.

  • Proven success in leading small teams to deliver new products on time and within budget.

  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities.

  • Strong sense of ownership and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain focus on overall objectives and task completion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with SAP

  • Current practical knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS is highly desirable

  • Experience with injection molding machines and auxiliary systems is beneficial

  • The ability to provide leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary product development teams.
