Job Description:
Responsibilities
The Hourly Project Assistant II will work with research scientists to assist in a project to quantify and describe the occupational disease burden in the state and create data products that can educate the public about adverse health effects from occupational exposures. that will reduce the risk of exposures in the future. The focus of this project will be a review of data from the New York State Occupational Health Clinic Network (OHCN). The OHCN is unique in the United States as a partially public funded, statewide, public health-based network offering clinical and preventive occupational disease services. Utilizing a public health approach, the nine regionally based clinics in the Network diagnose and treat occupational diseases and help improve the working environments in New York. Since the OHCN's inception in 1988, more than 90,000 people have made more than 290,000 patient visits to the clinics. Data from the OHCN has been used to identify clinical needs and challenges of the NYS workforce. The work of the OHCN has extended to entire communities by providing education and training tools to workers, employers, and health care providers. The OHCN data has provided Bureau researchers with a better understanding of work-related injuries, illnesses and exposures among NYS workers and residents.
Duties include assisting with data analyses to better identify racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in relation to an OHCN patient’s diagnosis, exposure, occupation, and industry, assisting in the identification of ‘at-risk’ OHCN populations and the general NYS working population to direct outreach efforts at the state and regional level. The resulting summarized occupational health data will be included in website publication.
