This role in conjunction with the FP&A Teams and broader Finance Department will help align & drive continuous EBT improvements through the following pillars: Merch Margin & Operating Expense, CapEx, Working Capital. This role will also evaluate the success of investments made to drive our key strategies.

The Senior Financial Analyst will support the Senior Manager and FFG Team on strategies & actions for key opportunities across all 3 pillars, working directly with their counterparts in other areas of the Company to deliver EBT savings throughout the year. Specifically, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing financial analysis and decision support across the portfolio of FFG initiatives, through support of project analytics, weekly insights & Monthly Dashboard Performance Tracking, and development of insightful financial presentations for Finance Leadership and C-Suite executives. Position will also have the opportunity to guide and mentor Financial Analysts and/or Finance Rotation Program teammates.

Additionally, position will identify new opportunities requiring elevated FFG attention, leading the charge to evaluate, track, and measure impact of investments made. The position requires an understanding of the broader DSG business and ability to navigate cross-functionally across the business. This role should also be able to develop complex project plans and lead initiatives at an accelerated pace.

Continuous Analysis and Development of Existing FFG Opportunities (Merch Margin & Operating Expense)

  • Serve as a key member of Fuel For Growth Team, ensuring long term savings goals are accomplished

  • Work with counterparts across Finance and other business areas to monitor and track progress of initiatives, staying on top of trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Continually analyze and proactively address areas that are not pacing toward goal and pose a risk to Target, providing regular updates and recommendations to management on key drivers of P&L variances

  • Partner with rest of FP&A to ensure savings are captured and layered into the Budget / Forecast

Performance Reporting, Monthly Company-Wide Updates, Executive-level & Board Materials as requested

  • Individual will take ownership of FFG Dashboarding and Reporting, delivering to meet reporting needs as requested by Executive leadership, effectively messaging via PowerPoint and graphical dashboards

  • On a monthly basis, compile, validate and summarize financial information submitted by other business areas; where reporting and tracking present a challenge, individual will work with partners to deep-dive the business and found creative solutions

  • Analyze reporting and dashboards for strategic initiatives and compare against expectations; where Risks to Target are identified, this role should proactively work to identify alternate opportunities to account for any EBT Savings shortfall

  • Develops Board and C-Suite-level financial decks including monthly and quarterly results, as requested by Leadership

Examination of FFG Portfolio to Expand Opportunities beyond current scope

  • Lead a continual process throughout the year of analysis of the FFG Portfolio:

    • Identify and qualify new opportunities that are strong candidates for ad hoc analysis

    • Proactively run with opportunities once identified and vetted, serving in a strategic and project management capacity to lead the initiative, provide performance reporting to management, and ultimately drive additional savings

    • Utilize results to measure ROI and true EBT savings opportunity

  • Where appropriate, influence business design and communicate insights around existing FFG Opportunities, identifying performance drivers to help stakeholders make more informed decisions

  • Partner with One Simple Improvement and Technology teams to support automation efforts and streamline relevant opportunities

Build the Pipeline for Future Fuel For Growth Opportunities

  • Proactively analyze the P&L to search for new FFG opportunities across each account-level line item, and become an expert in the underlying details of the income statement

  • Partner with FP&A owners throughout the year to address large expense pools and seek savings opportunities

  • Serve as key partner in annual Opportunity Sizing P&L Review Process to re-build the FFG Pipeline for the following year; scope may include components of sales, gross profit, operating expenses, administrative expenses, capital expenditures, and working capital

  • Incorporate projections of costs and benefits of strategic initiatives into the long term model

Supporting Additional Asks of FFG Team across CapEx, Working Capital, and other Strategic Initiatives

  • CapEx: Support FFG Senior Manager in partnering with business leaders to ensure we are cost engineering our Capital Expenditures and getting an adequate Return on Investment

  • Working Capital: Conduct analysis to identify opportunities to improve our working capital as a company, and support in building Executive-level presentations to advance this initiative

  • Execute ad-hoc analytics to support short and mid-term strategies.  Communicate financial and operations findings to Management, including recommendations and next steps.

  • Participate in cross-functional special projects where a Finance perspective is required or requested by Management; review and communicate financial impacts of business decisions.

  • Provide indirect supervision and mentoring to Financial Analysts and/or Financial Rotational Program Trainees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related business field

  • 3-5 years experience in areas such as Financial Planning, Corporate Finance, or Merchandising/PAR
