What is the Valuation team responsible for?

  • The Valuation Professional will be part of a global team supporting Benefit Street Partners - Alcentra’s monthly and quarterly valuation processes, including liaising with 3rd party valuation firms, investment and finance teams, and auditors, organizing these groups to meet desired deliverable timelines. An ability to manage multiple tasks while working under strict time deadlines is essential. This role will focus primarily on Private Debt, CLO, and Distressed and Special Situations investments.  The ideal candidate will have a mix of finance/accounting, experience in managing and strong analytical and communication skills.  This individual will collaborate with colleagues across the front, middle and back office, and will report to a VP of Finance out of the Boston office.

What are the on-going responsibilities of Valuation Manager be?

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate monthly and quarterly Valuation Processes covering a variety of credit strategies and asset types across hundreds of borrowers/issuers.

  • Leverage and continue to develop a deep technical strength in the valuation of alternative assets, serving as a firm resource for that expertise and sharing that knowledge throughout Benefit Street Partners - Alcentra

  • Recommend and/or and challenge methodologies and assumptions for existing investments utilizing technical knowledge.

  • Collaborate with investment teams to understand new investments and deal origination assumptions

  • Create summary materials and present to valuation committees for review and approval of significant changes/events, valuation and market trends, and key judgments

  • Coordinate with third party valuation firms and deal teams to create accurate, timely valuations

  • Prepare documentation in support of compliance with SOX and external audit requirements

  • Work with the Global Valuation Specialist to drive enhancements and improvements to the overall valuations and reporting processes, procedures, use of internal resources, and technology

What ideal qualifications skills & experience would help someone to be Successful?

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working in financial services

  • Experience reviewing and building valuation models (DCF, Comparable Multiple, and Option Pricing Models)

  • Knowledge of capital markets/ illiquid valuations

  • Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including streamlining processes

  • Ability to complete multiple tasks under the pressure of tight deadlines, and review/ apply modeling techniques to complex scenarios

  • Comfort managing the valuation process across a large quantity of diverse investments in parallel

  • Confidence presenting valuation methodologies and assumptions to senior management concisely and clearly

  • Understanding of Alternative Investment strategies and products

  • Strong functional background working with Excel. Familiarity with Capital IQ and Bloomberg a plus

  • Finance, Valuation, or Investment Banking training program preferred.

  • CFA professional designation or working towards, a plus.
