SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE…

The Core Data team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to develop the distributed core modern data store at the heart of Pure’s Flash Arrays. This includes the metadata database as well as the flash medium mapping of petabytes of files and objects on flash segments. We are looking for an engineer in this role who will make Pure’s Purity software applications on top of the database more capable, stable and performant with new database features and scalability. This engineer will also scale Pure’s All-Flash Arrays with newer high capacity storage by enhancing performance, reliability, resource consumption, space utilization and storage wear through database engineering techniques. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and developing software and driving projects for the database and metadata management on Pure’s Purity software platform.
  • Understand the needs of the customer workloads and the requirements of the platform applications. Apply algorithms and data structures with tradeoffs between compute, memory, IO and messaging to enhance the performance, functionality and scalability of the applications for customer workloads and the database itself.
  • Stress Testing, profiling, troubleshooting and measuring performance through scripting, log scraping, metrics export and data analytics.

 WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • 6+ years experience using C++ (< 1 year experience? We have special opportunities for you! Please apply directly to our University roles on our careers page)
  • Low level concurrent programming with systems fundamentals, multi-threading, IO, scheduling. Excellent experimentation and troubleshooting for issues such as races, corruptions, performance etc.
  • Expertise in modern database theory, concepts and techniques including Log-Structured-Merge tree optimization, storage engine, schema design, scalable Key-Value stores, autonomous tuning and workload optimization.
  • Bonus: Expertise in Replication/Snapshots/Consistency, Multi-tenant security of databases with bring your own key, Compression of the database.
  • Distributed Systems expertise
  • Proven design sensibility and the willingness to work in a collaborative, team oriented environment
  • Experience in any number of related systems software projects e.g: Distributed systems, Operating systems, Linux Kernel, Database internals, Hypervisors, Containers, Compiler Optimization, etc.
  • A BS degree in Computer Science; Advanced degrees are a bonus!
  • Must be willing and able to work in an open office environment

You will be based in Santa Clara, CA. As this is an office-centric role, you are expected to be present in the office for 4 days a week. As outlined in Pure's Hybrid Work Policy, there will be variations over periods of time, depending on business need.

The annual base salary range is: $163,000– $246,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
