Inbound Team Lead Warehouse Operations

Job purpose:

The Team Lead Warehouse Operations is operationally responsible for a group of  warehouse employees assigned to inbound and outbound operations for one or more Johnson Controls’ business units. Together with the team, the Team Lead ensures that the performance targets defined for the group are achieved, and potential issues are being addressed in an appropriate and timely manner. The team lead will support the team as needed in peak times to provide on-hands support to cope with the workload.

Together with the team’s supervisor, the Team Lead ensures a smooth flow of work processes every day. He/she is an important contributing factor to create an optimal working atmosphere and safety, and if training is needed, he/she will take appropriate action.

The Team lead actively checks, constructively appeals to people, and knows how to motivate employees to perform well and will support the team in case of issues. He/she is hands-on, likes to arrange and make things happen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to coordinate activities related to the inbound process and ensure daily targets are met
  • Monitoring compliance with work instructions and processes, and highlighting deviations
  • Ensuring new team members are being trained in line with the current procedures and will be provided appropriate support during their training phase
  • Support the team members with questions or problems as the first point of contact
  • Ensuring safety guidelines are followed and shortcomings are addressed
  • Optimal deployment of people as well as other assets (such as material handling equipment) based on own knowledge and real-time work offer during the shift
  • Signaling and reporting deviations or issues that will impact the team’s performance and arrange for appropriate support
  • Based on the core metrics; identify potential improvement of the workplace and -processes in cooperation with the Supervisor, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Where needed, support the Supervisor as a backup, and provide him/her with input related to employee performance and / or required skills development


Skills & Experience:

  • Completed MBO training preferably in Logistics or similar area
  • At least 3 years of recent work experience in a warehouse/distribution center or other logistics work environments with some team-leading / coordinating activities
  • Knowledge of functionalities and use of ERPs and / or warehouse management systems (for example: Oracle, SAP, AS400) and experience in MS Office tools, especially Excel
  • Being able to lead small improvement projects using Lean tools
  • Good communication skills, flexibility, conflict management, stress resistance, customer focus, as well as accountability are required key competencies
  • Fluent in English and Dutch in writing and verbally
  • Preferably full time availability
