Overview:
Develop and implement second line of defense risk management initiatives within Compliance Risk Management in support of the Compliance Risk Management Program. Manage the work and employee development of a team of employees responsible for risk and control functions in the business unit. Act as project leader on complex and highly visible risk management projects, analytics, and validations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Compliance Testing Department regarding testable unit support and data requests.
  • Support the Compliance Oversight Groups Business Unit Monitoring program.

  • Facilitate the Continuous Testing Analytics Program for Compliance Risk Management and ensure quality documentation of the program and its analytic design documentation and annual certification.

  • Manage the expectations of stakeholders and customers regarding requests for support.
  • Support Compliance Risk Management with prevalidation, targeted reviews and assurance support.
  • Assist with communicating the capacity and direction of the Data and Systems Teams work queue regarding prioritization of backlog and in progress tasks.
  • Source solutions for new data or systems access, procure new technology, including collaboration with central technology and the enterprise data teams.
  • Provide solutions for those requesting support in limited capacity situations provide alternate solutions.
  • Liase with the Enterprise Risk Management Department and the Enterprise Risk Solutions Data Team regarding top-down initiatives.
  • Monitor business unit performance with respect to established key risk indicators (KRIs) and prepare comprehensive KRI reporting.
  • Identify emerging risks and risks associated with new products/ services/ markets/ channels or changes to existing products/ services/ markets/ channels.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the staff. Review and approve test results. Build a working relationship with business unit management, Internal Audit, Corporate Operational Risk and Corporate Compliance Portfolio Managers.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related curriculum and a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience (Compliance, Audit or Risk Management), inclusive of 4 years' supervisory experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 12 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 8 years' relevant work experience and 3 years' supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching experience.
  • Ability to read and understand laws, regulations, and common law applicable to subject matter.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Must have banking and compliance knowledge, the ability to exercise sound judgment, and to observe the highest degree of confidentiality in the handling of information received in the course of their responsibilities.
  • Sound understanding of financial services functions.
  • Possess regulatory subject matter expertise for the respective portfolio being managed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to senior level management with an approachable style.
  • Possess strong project management skills, making sound decisions, and exhibiting initiative and critical thinking.
  • Strong proficiency with spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing software.
  • Possess effective negotiation skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Related certifications (CPA, CIA, CISA, CAMS, CRCM or similar certifications)
  • Experience with SQL, Snowflake, Enterprise Wide Projects
  • Knowledge of Risk and Regulatory Compliance

The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation. The range listed above corresponds to our national pay range for this role. The specific pay range applicable to you may vary based on your location.
