We are looking for a Legal Counsel to work closely together with our General Counsel, Jessica McBride, on all aspects of building and scaling bunch's in-house legal department and providing legal support for bunch's product and strategic decisions. Our product sits at the intersection of finance and law, and bunch’s legal team is critical to our company’s success.

How the role contributes to the company's vision

• Pioneering the development and broadening of bunch's legal framework as well as efforts in legal technology and artificial intelligence.

• Taking the helm in the formation of the legal department, orchestrating the company's legal strategy and ensuring strict compliance with legal statutes and industry regulations.

• Championing bunch's vision by safeguarding the company's operational integrity and fostering the creation of innovative products, underpinned by astute legal insight.

Top responsibilities

• Be the second full-time legal hire at bunch and be instrumental in building our legal department.

• Build and improve the contractual and regulatory bases for bunch's products, including partnership and shareholder agreements, corporate, trust and investment documents, and service and other operating agreements.

• Work closely with bunch's automation, business development, product, and operations teams, including on LLM use cases and other legal tech and AI applications.

• Conduct legal research, particularly on the varied bank and payments regulatory topics, funds law questions and matters of general company and corporate law that underlie bunch's products, and provide strategic legal recommendations on product development and navigating bunch’s regulatory environment.

• Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with our partners and customers.

• Assist in matters of German / EU anti-money laundering, privacy and financial compliance law that are relevant to our operations.

• Own your workstreams and be responsible for project management.

• Help coordinate outside counsel and other stakeholders, in all jurisdictions where we operate.

• Join an early-stage company and get a first-hand look at how a company is built.

What you should bring with you

• German qualification with at least “fully satisfactory” (vollbefriedigend) results in first and second state exams.

• 1-3 years experience in general corporate, finance or funds practice, preferably gained in private practice / law firm, with strong contractual drafting skills. 

• Experience in financial services or funds regulation is a plus, but not a prerequisite.

• Native-level proficiency in German and excellent written and spoken skills in both German and English.

• Be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized and comfortable with responsibility.
