The GWAM Ops Intern program supports eight business units under the Operations umbrella, with locations in Toronto, Halifax, Waterloo, and Montreal. Depending on the aspirations and fit of successful candidates, placements may be in one of the following organizations:

1. Retirement Operations and Strategy: Aiming to enhance efficiency through automation, digitization, process improvement, and other transformation strategies. 2. Investment Operations: Providing daily support to Fund Managers and Traders, and interacting with Institutional Clients throughout the end-to-end operations lifecycle, including onboarding, cash and trade support, and client interactions.

The program includes a comprehensive training curriculum focusing on three foundational areas: Customer Experience, Data Analytics, and Continuous Improvement. Additionally, it offers professional development events to build soft skills, networking opportunities, and mentorship. The program also fosters a community of interns working in GWAM operations across various locations, encouraging mutual learning and connection.

Available Roles for the Summer 2025 Term: Retirement, Investment Operations

Position Responsibilities:

  • Good understanding of project management methodologies, while delivering on special projects as assigned.
  • Ability to work with multiple business owners across Manulife and through exercise of impact and influence, persuade them to pursue quick win recommendations suggested by this team.  
  • Proven ability to present compelling, fact-based analysis that enables efficient and sound decision-making at the senior management level.  
  • Ability to leverage analytical tools to diagnose, recommend and resolve significant process issues with an ability to influence senior stakeholders to drive change across the functional area.  
  • Assist with maintaining the operational support model across functional teams and provide insights on developing NextGen project.

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Computer Science, or relevant field.
  • A proactive self-starter with demonstrated leadership qualities.  
  • Interest and strength in business process improvement; high attention to detail.
  • Highly developed planning and organizing skills; can manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.  
  • A proven innovative thinker and problem solver; fast learner, able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications like Excel, as well as SharePoint and Visio, and other reporting details are a bonus.
