Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of bus product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions, lasting value to our customers, and cutting-edge technologies that shape the future of public transit.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will be responsible for leading, growing, and coaching the electrical and software engineering teams focused on embedded control systems and electrical products for transit doors, ramps, lifts, charging systems, along with other products. Your leadership, strategy, and innovation will be crucial in maintaining Wabtec's market leadership in advanced bus transportation systems and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. You will report directly to the Director of Product Engineering & Product Management.

What do we want to know about you?

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of experience
  • Master's degree / MBA preferred
  • 5+ years in technical leadership within transportation or related industries
  • Proven record of driving high-impact business results
  • Experience with vehicle control technologies, control systems, and cybersecurity
  • Experience with software development lifecycle & agile methodologies
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams
  • Proficient in project management, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies
  • History of driving change and innovation
  • Solid Stage Gate NPD & FMEA process knowledge

What will your typical day look like?

  • Manage the development, design, and release of industry leading electronic hardware and software products
  • Develop and execute strategies for an electrical and software product portfolio.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors/engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation efforts across the product portfolio.
  • Develop & control department KPI’s, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Facilitate collaboration with cross-functional teams, project management, and other internal/external stakeholders.
  • Continuously improves/adapts internally for more effective and efficient work
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality.
  • Represent Wabtec Bus Solutions in customer meetings and industry events.
  • Manage department budget, resource allocation, and oversee departmental expenditures.
  • Lead initiatives to maintain and enhance Bus Solutions' technological leadership.
  • Implement talent growth and capacity planning strategies.
  • Develop and enforce processes for timely, cost-effective, quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with marketing/sales to align with market demands.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and technology partners.
  • Drive projects from concept to production launch

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove office
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing sites
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift twenty-five pounds
  • Up to 15% travel to customer sites - may require walking and navigating facilities

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
