We identify high-value sites, work with landowners and local communities to develop them, and partner with long-term asset owners to bring the most impactful clean energy projects to life.

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Director of Policy and Business Development, New York to join our team. The Director of Policy and Business Development, New York will work collaboratively with our development and policy teams to increase the value of our existing pipeline and generate new business opportunities, primarily in state level solar and energy storage sectors.  We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader who has experience developing business opportunities and advocating for policy changes, ideally in the solar or storage space in New York, or similar experience in other markets or other locales, that he or she can bring to bear to accelerate our growth in New York. 

The Director of Policy and Business Development, New York will join a growing team of developers, engineers, and business development professionals focused on accelerating New Leaf’s growth. Our growth is motivated principally by our mission to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and by our long history of growing solar and storage markets across the U.S.  

This position may be filled out of our Lowell, MA,  Boston, MA or Troy, NY, Chicago, IL, or Oakland, CA office. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and are free to work from the office or from home on other days.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Leading and preparing market analyses and working collaboratively across the organization to implement business development strategies that add meaningfully to New Leaf’s existing solar and storage businesses in New York; 
  • Shaping and pre-empting changes in state legislative and regulatory proceedings, utility filings, and market structures and translating those changes into opportunities for our solar and energy storage businesses;
  • Working collaboratively with New Leaf’s development, finance and policy teams and our allies to improve state market structures for renewable energy and storage projects. 

Desired Qualifications 

While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes.   • Significant (8+ years) experience in business development or policy, preferably focused on solar or storage issues in New York or related field;
  • Understanding of interconnection challenges and strategies for de-risking renewable energy projects;
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, and experience in successfully navigating policy through these arenas;
  • Demonstrated business development leadership experience in solar, storage, or similar sectors;
  • Demonstrated policy advocacy experience in electricity markets;
  • Superior writing, presentation, and analytical skills;
  • Passion for accelerating the adoption of renewable energy.

Compensation

New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership.  We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.

Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position in the Boston location is $170,360-$197,980. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 30% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. We value transparency and can share more during the interview process.
