As the leader of Product and Technology (P&T) Finance, you will collaborate closely with engineering and product leaders, to drive financial planning for R&D strategic initiatives. Your role will involve helping the team evaluate and size their investment opportunities, ensuring accountability for delivering results, and advocating for the P&T team to foster their success. Additionally, you will act as a financial safeguard to ensure we build a sustainable business model.

This position offers the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the business by working directly with senior management on critical investment decisions. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Finance, you will be a key player in our organization, serving as a strategic financial advisor for the R&D divisions. You will develop financial models that align with the company’s strategic goals, elevating financial planning from basic budget management to strategic investment in innovation. Your focus will be on ensuring that every dollar spent enhances engineering ROI.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Project based expense management and Optimization: Track and Forecast project costs against approved business cases and budgets. Identify variances and provide timely insights to R&D teams and management. Identify innovative ideas to achieve savings targets without compromising on growth or service quality. Report on progress and adapt strategies to meet evolving technological and market demands. Leverage deep analytical insights to refine and optimize global Engineering and Product operations. Implement benchmarking and best practices to drive continual improvement in R&D efficiency and effectiveness. Evaluate the unit-economics of new products & features and their impact on the overall company financials to inform operational strategy.
  • Analytical Expertise: Manage complex cost and expense centers, overseeing different P&Ls for each assigned business unit. Utilize financial modeling and forecasting techniques to support decision-making processes. Lead the monthly forecasting process, preparing consolidating forecasts, plans, and actual reports. Conduct analysis and due diligence during the month-end close process. Research monthly variances to plan, forecast, and prior year, leveraging general ledger reports to access accounting data and provide actionable insights. Demonstrate proficiency in Excel functions and/or Power BI or similar tools, leveraging these technologies to enhance data visualization and analysis capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Product and Engineering, Enterprise IT, Accounting, and other departments to gather, analyze, and present data, fostering a seamless flow of information and insights. Develop strong business partnerships with other departments, contributing to the overall. Engage in negotiations with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring favorable financial outcomes for the organization.
  • Presentation Excellence: Prepare presentations for Executive leaders for Monthly and Quarterly reviews, Operations Planning, and other key forums, ensuring a high level of presentability and clarity in conveying financial insights. Effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders, facilitating a clear understanding of financial performance and implications. Have excellent financial story telling skills.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of strategic business plans, aligning financial goals with overall company objectives. Assess and mitigate financial risks, ensuring a proactive approach to risk management within the business.

Required Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, mathematics, statistics or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Technology finance and/or FP&A role at an R&D focused company
  • Proficiency in Financial Modeling, Budgeting for Expense, Reporting, Cost Allocations, Resource Planning for engineering projects, Capitalization calculations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Power BI or other similar tools
  • Experience with general ledger ERP tools, such as Oracle NetSuite, SAP etc.
  • Effective and collaborative communicator with proven executive level presentation skills


Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

  • SaaS and/or enterprise software business models and collaborating with SaaS engineering teams

Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $195,000
