Mechanical Engineering
What will you do
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. This may include fabricating, operating, installing, or repairing design products such as motors, instruments, control panels, and other machines.
How you will do it
Provide technical design support to the engineering department with specific focus on mechanical design engineering. As a project lead, a good understanding of Electrical, Structural, and Controls engineering is a benefit.
Engineering VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) which includes regular walk on the plant floor to identify opportunities to improve and simply the design to reduce production hours of the units in production. The intent is to reduce cost without impacting the overall performance of the unit. Also, to confirm that the revised design meet codes and client`s specification.
Designing product assembly lines with Production coordinators (PCs)/engineering; ensuring all associated admin work is addressed in advance of the construction Selection of fans, coils and other equipment components associated with air handling equipment.
Costing of units and components.
Production of equipment drawings and submittal packages.
Review unit construction drawing packages
Design of custom air handling equipment to client’s specifications.
Design of computer room air handling units to client specifications.
Design development and value engineering assistance of data centers and modular data centers to support client specific needs.
Kick off; scheduling, station setups (BOMs, fab parts, consumables), subassembly design and layout, plant layouts, rough cycle times, takt time calculations, preliminary line balancing (ongoing balance).
Be involved in many aspects of the business including support for estimating, business development and sales, production improvements and marketing.
Development of new and innovative product lines and refinement of existing products.
Design, develop, and test AHU and MDC (SRM & PRM) products including:
Specialize in applied mechanical design, Psychrometrics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, and Thermodynamics, applicable codes and standards, and HVAC industry design practices.
Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering schematics and specifications prepared by the client or their consultants, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, effective, and practical.
Interact with production; perform periodic inspections of units under construction. Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs and manufactured units prior to leaving the plant.
Create and implement standard specification languages and procedures for mechanical engineering projects.
Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services. Participate in continuous product improvement.
Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
Collaborate with other departments (e.g. other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, IT, Plant, Service etc.) to ensure project success.
Evaluate various mechanical components for performance, cost, and lead times.
Determine project cost estimates.
Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
What we look for
Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).
Professional Engineering (PE) designation.
Five or more years of related experience.
5+ years of related experience in HVAC design required, including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control.
Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset.
Proficiency with AutoCAD software is essential.
Ability to integrate new technologies into machines.
Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
Competence in designing according to industry codes and standards.
Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
Proven track record in managing large project budgets.
Practical experience with risk management, product design and testing, estimating, and project management.
Highly motivated and self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
