About This Opportunity  

The Application Technical Lead will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of large ERP system implementations, upgrades, and maintenance projects, using technical experience in software development and functional knowledge of ERP systems and system integration to design, document and deliver solutions. 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Cyber Security & Compliance: Promote and ensure compliance with UQ's Cyber Security Policy, while collaborating with stakeholders in the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of solutions.

  • Solution Design & Delivery: Lead the technical design, implementation, and testing of solutions, engaging with business and technical stakeholders to deliver features that meet customer needs.

  • Technical Authority & Mentorship: Act as a technical authority, reviewing solution designs for maintainability and robustness, and providing senior technical advice, mentoring, and support to team members.

  • Continuous Improvement & Testing: Investigate business requirements, drive continuous improvement, and create test cases and scripts based on in-depth technical analysis of specifications.

About ITS 

The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) at The University of Queensland provides an information environment that supports the teaching, learning, research and engagement objectives of the University and contributes positively to the student experience and the University’s reputation, in line with our values of Service, Team, Accountability and Results. It delivers network, systems and IT infrastructure support to the University, and application development.

Also located within ITS, is the internationally recognised network security group, AusCERT, which provides Internet security services throughout Australia and New Zealand.  ITS manages core networks not only for the whole of The University of Queensland, but also works with other Queensland universities to manage access to the national university network (AARNet). ITS also operates research computing infrastructure and hosts many of the University’s largest servers.

About You

  • Postgraduate degree in IT, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a relevant area.

  • Strong skills in business analysis, technical solution design, testing, and documentation within large ERP systems, with a focus on hands-on experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP platforms.

  • Proven experience in coordinating IT projects, liaising with stakeholders, and ensuring the delivery of robust solutions through effective risk management.

  • Demonstrated expertise in designing, testing, coding, and documenting complex programs within PeopleSoft or similar ERP systems.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to mentor team members, collaborate with stakeholders, and effectively convey technical concepts.

  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working in agile development environments, with a background in roles such as Scrum Master, and familiarity with the software development lifecycle.

  • Technical knowledge and practical experience in Oracle PeopleSoft applications, including troubleshooting, configuration, and ongoing system improvements.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
