GEICO is seeking an experienced Sr. Staff Engineering Operations with a passion for managing complex programs across multiple departments and team to build a Payment Platform from the ground up. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission.

Position Description

Payment Platform engineering partners with design, digital product, finance, and business leaders. The Staff Engineering Operations is a key member of the team working across the organization to ensure successful delivery of the new platform. In this role you will own a portfolio of initiatives such as compliance, engineering excellence and vendor engagement, going beyond project

management to deliver technical solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of modern software development practices and technologies, understanding of system architecture so they can understand dependencies, mitigate risks, engage the right technical partners, and drive towards a solution.

As a Staff Engineering Operations within the Technologies area, you will:

  • Partner with the project sponsor, delivery team, and stakeholders to deliver quality solutions on time and within budget by coordinating project activities across multiple systems, departments, and teams.
  • Create, maintain, and actively manage a detailed project schedule, change control process, and documentation.
  • Work with your leadership to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the stakeholder community, and deliver projects on time
  • Identify and raise appropriate project risks, in addition to presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternatives
  • Understand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areas
  • Report on progress of the program/project and other key metrics to align leadership and staff
  • Leverage your knowledge of operational and LEAN practices/principles to streamline organizational and team processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
  • Consistently share best practices and take initiative to improve processes within and across teams
  • Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans
  • Perform ad hoc research and analysis to ensure requirements are identified, tracked, and met

Qualifications

  • Strong program and project management skills with proven experience coordinating projects across multiple teams, with successful project/product delivery at scale
  • Detail and deadline oriented with effective organizational and analytic skills
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and analytical skills
  • Outstanding time management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings, proposals, issues, and status
  • Experience with continuous delivery
  • Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while coordinating activities with cross-divisional teams
  • Effective leadership qualities, ability to influence without direct management authority
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong experience of using ADO is highly recommended
  • Previous experience with Payments preferred

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in managing cross-organizational projects
  • Excellent understanding of Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Project Management, or equivalent

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent experience


 

Annual Salary

$130,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
