Job Description

About Bose
You know the moment. It's the first notes of that song you love, the intro to your favorite movie, or simply the sound of someone you love saying "hello". It's in these moments that sound matters most. At Bose, we believe sound is the most powerful force on earth. We've dedicated ourselves to improving it for nearly 60 years. And we're passionate down to our bones about making whatever you're listening to a little more magical.

About the Role

As a Technical Lead - Systems Engineer for the Partnership team – a new business vertical, you’ll lead product development activities and serve as the main technical point of contact. This is a high-impact role for an experienced Engineer to lead the design of new Bose products working with Engineers across Bose and external partners.

At Bose, we’ve spent more than 50 years finding new ways to bring quality audio products to people—in their homes, in automobiles, in airplanes, and just about anywhere else that there is a possibility to enjoy music. Our legendary Wave® music system, SoundLink® Mini Bluetooth speaker, or QuietComfort® acoustic noise cancelling headphones may ring a bell with you. Bose relies on outstanding people to build and deliver those products to our customers.

The Systems Engineer will develop products that contain a high degree of system complexity while leading cross-functional engineering teams and interfacing directly with contract manufacturers and technology partners to design products meeting customer needs, direct cost targets, and safety/regulatory requirements. The candidate must have experience in consumer product development, medical device development, or a related industry.

You will lead the execution of product development engineering plans. In conjunction with program management, you’ll coordinate work streams across internal and external engineering teams, and contract manufacturers. You’ll proactively identify engineering issues/risks and drive resolution by coordinating engineering teams, product architects, and product management. You’ll assess and establish feasibility of plans by working with senior engineers.  The role offers a unique opportunity to do the most impactful work of your career. If the prospect of making a positive tangible impact on millions of people excites you, and you enjoy working on teams with other really smart people, then we want to meet you.

Engineering requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of hardware engineering experience, with at least two years leading successful cross-functional engineering teams working on projects involving initial development through product launch.

  • Demonstrated ability to run a highly technical team of multi-disciplinary engineers

  • Proven track record of systems engineering for sophisticated electronics devices

  • Experience with audio product engineering and manufacturing

  • Technical problem-solving skills that combine evidence with intuition

  • History of clearly defined engineering deliverables being completed on time, within budget, and product-cost targets while meeting internal and regulatory requirements

  • Led partners in direct cost estimation for early concepts

  • Ability to ensure the development process and supporting documentation follow internal and Partner requirements

  • History of creating Statements of Work for development partners and outlining engineering roles and responsibilities

  • Experience tracking progress of engineering effort, direct cost, and design maturity against established criteria

  • Coordinated program activities between industrial design, user experience, engineering, design assurance, quality, regulatory, reliability, testing, and documentation

  • Knowledge of software development practices, analog and digital electronics, acoustics, RF and signal processing, and modern manufacturing techniques

Interpersonal requirements:

  • Passion: You are driven – in your personal and professional life – by a burning desire to make a difference and change the world.

  • Grit: You are a go-to person who can be counted on at crunch time. You know when to grind and when to let your hair down. You don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. You find a way.

  • Comfort with ambiguity: You drive to tangible results in a timely manner, even when the work involves a high level of ambiguity. You gravitate to new and risky ventures.

  • Communication: You can distill numerous and complex ideas down to simple messages.  A consistent track record driving cohesion and collaboration among many different people and functions. You know how empower and influence others.

  • Emotional intelligence. You have a proven ability to handle interpersonal relationships – with subordinates, peers, stakeholders, and external partners – efficiently and empathetically.

Education:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software engineering. Graduate degree preferred.
