Our Supply Chain Operations team works in a centrally served, locally led environment with a combination of operations, capability building, and strategy across end-to-end Supply Chain at Nike. Within Supply Chain Operations, the Flow Optimization organization owns product flow from factory door to consumer door, across e-commerce, wholesale, and Nike stores. Flow Optimization serves the marketplace needs of cost, convenience, speed, and sustainability through third party logistics networks and internal processes that connect departments along the value chain.
We are looking for a Senior Director of Transportation role who is responsible for all international freight operations (ocean, air, origin consolidation, destination deconsolidation) and all capability building across first, middle, and last mile transportation.
This role services dozens of manufacturing countries of origin and four marketplace geographies across the world, it is the main leadership point of contact for products flowing from factories to consumers around the globe. This role is also responsible for identifying, scoping, and implementing best-in-class technology solutions to elevate how Nike flows product to hit our consumer promise goals.
We are looking for someone that has a strategic mindset, attention to detail, and focus on performance. This requires top-to-top relationships and strategic management of carriers, brokers, and 3PLs in dozens of countries around the world.
If this is you, you’ll be working with our product supply chain teams (representing factories), technology/product teams, origin logistics 3PLs, and global carriers primarily in international ocean flows. You will be managing our transit time performance, service, and cost through routine RFP/tender events and supplier performance management forums. By leveraging expertise and fostering collaboration across different functional teams, you will drive business value for Nike Inc and its customers through spearheading logistics process improvement towards long term strategies.
This role is also responsible for developing and implementing capabilities for Nike’s transportation which includes flow optimization, Inbound Transportation Management System, Strategic Enterprise Capabilities rollout to Nike GEOs and strategy planning for planned lead time in Nike’s planning system across all origins.
A typical day/week will involve obsessing over operational metrics and determining how to improve with Nike’s logistics service providers. You will oversee and guide strategic tech implementations like inbound transportation management systems, as well as real time visibility platforms. You will initiate, develop, and maintain strategic top-to-top relationships with large multi-national logistics service providers, determining how to achieve maximum value via the partnership with Nike.
You will be working with logistics service providers and Geo transportation teams to execute the day-to-day performance of Nike’s global flow network. To build capabilities, you will also be working with internal technology and product teams to develop and prioritize roadmaps as well as hit deadlines as projects unfold. A focus on cost will come via relationships with Global Procurement and a familiarity with RFP and ocean tender programs.
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in supply chain field or related experience
15 years of transportation experience
Strong story teller, ability to transplate complex transportation topics into executive level communication
Direct experience running and leading transportation procurement events
Understanding in macroeconomic issues pertaining to international trade and transportation
Understanding of end-to-end global supply chain flow
In-depth understanding of the operations and commercial aspects of global logistics service providers
Strong knowledge of Air and Ocean freight operations processes
Strong knowledge of direct to consumer ecommerce transportation via small parcel
Strong knowledge of Transportation Management System and its operating model
Applied understanding of Project/Transition/Change Management concepts, models, and standard processes
Experience of involvement in cross-functional and virtual teams, with a proven record of accomplishment in leading results oriented teams
Able to work comfortably up, down and across the organization using communication skills to bring teams together, address concerns and get results
Strong written and verbal communication skills (including ability to define problems and guide teams in solving them)
Cross cultural awareness of business protocols and practices
Direct experience with top-to-top strategic carrier relationships
Display flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity as needed to implement projects and "go live" successfully
High level of proficiency in using desktop tools for communication including MS PowerPoint and Word
End-to-end knowledge of supply chain operations and systems
Travel up to 25-30% of the year (domestic / international)
