Rothschild & Co Wealth Management Lending Activities

Rothschild & Co Wealth Management has private client lending teams located in Guernsey, London and Zurich which work closely together to provide lending services to our clients, including mortgages and Lombard lending (secured on investment assets). Rothschild & Co Wealth Management also has a commercial real estate lending team based in Wilmslow (Cheshire).

Overview of Role

The Guernsey lending team is responsible for the provision of credit facilities for new and existing Wealth Management clients and other lending activities undertaken in Guernsey, including UK commercial real estate and intra-group lending.

We are seeking to recruit a Lending Executive who will work in the Guernsey team and report to the Head of Lending in Guernsey. The role will also involve working closely with:

the Head of Private Client Lending and the Group Head of Banking of Rothschild & Co; the Private Client Lending teams in London and Zurich; and the Wealth Management client advisers in the UK, Guernsey, Switzerland and other Rothschild & Co European offices.

Key responsibilities

New Credit Facilities:

  • Reviewing lending enquiries from clients (typically communicated through client advisers);
  • Analysing credit risk, including affordability assessment (where relevant), borrower and collateral security (investment portfolios and real estate), due diligence, custody arrangements, insurance and valuations;
  • Structuring and negotiating suitable loan structures in accordance with credit policy (and input from senior colleagues)
  • Negotiating and discussing terms with client advisers, clients and introducers;
  • Preparing facility term sheets;
  • Preparing credit papers and presenting at Credit Committee;
  • Drafting and negotiating loan facility documentation (including facility agreements and security documentation) typically based on template agreements and with input from legal advisers;
  • Appointing and liaising with professional advisers; and
  • Liaising with the Banking Administration team to set up new facilities.

Existing Facilities

  • Carrying out reviews of loan facilities and monitoring credit exposures;
  • Day to day liaison with clients and their Wealth Management client advisers and other advisers;
  • Monitoring loan facilities (e.g. financial covenants, collateral values);
  • Managing changes to facilities (e.g. increases/extensions); and
  • Liaising with clients whose facilities are due to expire to agree renewal requirements.

Other

  • Reviewing exception reporting for credit facilities along with follow up action to resolve issues;
  • Maintaining procedural and legal documents including liaison with professional advisers;
  • Ad-hoc lending initiatives / projects; and
  • Liaising with introducers (professional advisers and brokers).

Technical Skills, Competencies and other requirements specific to the role

  • Experience of working in private client lending and a good understanding of the market;
  • Strong analytical and numerical ability with the ability to assess complex credit situations to identify the key risks and measures to mitigate risks;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advisers, intermediaries, Credit Committee and colleagues across Europe;
  • High attention to detail and ability to work accurately, to tight deadlines and with limited supervision;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Self-starter and team player;
  • High level of professional integrity; and
  • Good IT skills including MS Office, particularly excel, word and powerpoint.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Relevant lending experience;
  • CII Certificate in Mortgage Advice or CeMAP (if the candidate is not currently qualified, they would be provided with training materials and expected to complete the qualification within the first year of employment); and
  • ACIB or other relevant banking or financial qualification would be a benefit.
