As a member of the Groupon Tax Team, reporting to the VP of Tax located in Chicago, the Director of Tax, EMEA and APAC, will be responsible for the planning and supervision of tax matters relating to Groupon’s operations in EMEA and APAC, including tax compliance, tax planning, transfer pricing, tax accounting (both under US GAAP, local Statutory accounting and IFRS rules) and tax controversy. The tax work will be done in partnership with Groupon’s Global Tax Team and the International Finance and Treasury organizations.
We work flexibly in Groupon and have a hybrid working structure. You would be required to work in the office 2 days a week.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support management as a tax business partner by coordinating, managing and implementing projects; ensuring their proper, efficient and timely execution from a tax and legal perspective
Review corporate tax returns for select Groupon entities, manage tax group and related compliance arrangements and account for taxes under US GAAP, local GAAP, statutory accounting and IFRS.
Serve as a primary point of contact and build relationships with tax authorities to ensure a strong, robust and professional relationship is maintained during tax audits for both direct and indirect taxes
Produce technical, accounting and economics analyses and documentation on key financial transactions
Assist in the collection, management and analysis of taxes with a risk assessment mindset
Develop industry knowledge and increase tax knowledge globally to evaluate the impact on Groupon
Develop strong relationships with other functions such as International Finance, Treasury and Legal
Manage external adviser relationships
Support transfer pricing work globally, including BEPS, Country by Country Reporting, and global documentation efforts
Experience with UK and Ireland tax rules and issues, thin capitalization issues and UK and Ireland tax reporting is a plus
