Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for an Accounting Specialist or Senior Accounting Specialist to join our Fixed Asset Accounting & Reporting team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.

What does an Accounting Specialist do for us?

This individual performs a variety of accounting functions, reconciliations, compiles data and prepares financial reports for analysis, and assists with special projects. They will analyze accounting documents for accuracy, traces and investigates transactions to resolve questionable data and takes corrective action when necessary. They will review financial attributes of individual construction projects, process asset retirements and any necessary adjustments, and permanently close construction projects.

Additional Duties:

  • Reviews construction project (work orders) accurately, timely, and in compliance with internal control requirements.
  • Verifies account entries for accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness.
  • Identifies and responds actively and with sensitivity to the needs of customers, internal and external.
  • Supportive, open to, and responsive to change.
  • Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and performs work independently within defined parameters and timelines.

A Senior Accounting Specialist will also:

Under broad direction handle a wide variety of advanced accounting work including maintenance of and preparing reports on complex asset and accounting records, exercising considerable initiative in arranging details to meet objectives. At this level, incumbents must exercise independent decision making and apply specialized knowledge.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Basic accounting principles and procedures
  • Specialized accounting, such as fixed asset and cost accounting

Skills in:

  • Proficient in the use of Excel and enterprise-wide financial and/or work management systems, i.e., Asset Suite/PeopleSoft applications
  • Effective editing and proofreading to compose the content and format of correspondence and technical documents
  • Researching and preparing basic reports and correspondence in routine administrative areas

Ability to:

  • Understand and apply mathematical calculations and concepts involving fractions, decimals, percentages, etc.
  • Develop and improve job processes in an evolving environment
  • Safeguard the use of sensitive and confidential information


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Accounting Specialist:

Education:

  • Associates degree in related discipline

OR

  • Equivalent work experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in related discipline

Experience:

  • 4 years of relevant work experience

OR

  • Bachelors degree in related discipline

Senior Accounting Specialist:
Education:

  • Associates degree in related discipline

OR

  • Equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 6 years of relevant work experience

OR

  • Bachelors degree in related discipline plus 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Preferred:
    • Bachelors degree in related discipline plus 2 years of relevant work experience


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people.
