Compute Engine Support Engineer Summary This profile outlines the requirements for a Compute Engine Support Engineer to assist in identifying qualified candidates. Ideal candidates possess extensive expertise in Operating Systems and infrastructure, specifically within Google Cloud Platform (GCP). They should have a strong background as a SysAdmin or in similar roles, with deep knowledge of cloud technologies, networking, and compute performance in Linux and/or Windows environments. Technical Skills Compute: Deep understanding of virtualization, OS internals, system administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. GCP Proficiency: Hands-on experience with GCP core services, particularly Compute Engine, IAM, Networking (VPC, Subnets, Firewalls, Load Balancing), and Storage (Cloud Storage, Persistent Disk). Operating Systems: Strong proficiency in Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) administration. Windows Server experience is a significant plus. Security: Knowledge of cloud security best practices, including IAM implementation, access control, vulnerability management, and data exfiltration protection. Monitoring & Logging: Experience with tools for proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis. Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Bash, Python, or PowerShell. Experience with IaC and CI/CD tools (Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Cloud Build) is essential. Networking: Solid grasp of TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, routing, and load balancing; ability to troubleshoot complex network issues. Web Technologies: Familiarity with HTTP/HTTPS, REST APIs, and SSL/TLS to resolve web application issues. Soft Skills: Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience Broad IT Experience: 3+ years in infrastructure, security, networking, backup, storage, and/or virtualization. Troubleshooting: 3+ years diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues. Support: Familiarity with support methodologies, case lifecycles, and structured issue deconstruction. Certifications (Optional but Preferred) Commitment to professional development is highly valued. The following are considered assets: Operating Systems: Linux (RHCSA, RHCE, LFCS) or Windows (MCSA, MCSE) certifications. Cloud Computing: Google Cloud Professional certifications (Cloud Architect, Cloud DevOps Engineer) are highly desired. Associate Cloud Engineer (ACE) is also a valuable asset.
