The team

The Finance team at Kraken is a group of specialists charged with managing the firm’s liquidity, capital and risk, and providing the overall financial controls and reporting functions for executive decision making, compliance, and audit readiness. Our work contributes directly to Kraken’s success.

The Platform Accounting team is an integral part of the Finance organization responsible for financial accounting and reporting on a variety of trading products and transactions including fiat, digital assets, futures, margin, options and other new company initiatives. In addition, the Platform Accounting team oversees Over-the-Counter (“OTC”) operations, serving Kraken’s high-networth individuals and financial institutional clients. The Platform Accounting team is a dynamic organization at the forefront of building best in class accounting processes and infrastructure to support Kraken’s mission in the crypto industry.The team is highly motivated and  passionate about excellence in financial reporting and continuously strives for improvement. You will join a supportive team and work on projects that have a global reach, offering a broader perspective on finance and accounting.

We are seeking a Senior Accounting Manager on OTC and Futures, who will work closely with your Finance and Accounting leadership  business partners to plan, implement, improve, automate, test, and ensure the Platform Accounting team provides complete and accurate financial records and reports for management, improves the quality of our financial statements, and boosts our audit readiness. The Senior Manager of Futures & OTC is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the accounting close and financial reporting processes related to the Futures and Over-the-Counter (“OTC”) products in accordance with company policy and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. This role will work closely with the product management and business operations to ensure new products and services are integrated in the financial systems. This role also plays a key role in providing strategic insights to senior leaders and mentoring team members.

The opportunity

  • Interface daily with internal systems and our proprietary exchange platforms to ensure fiat and digital asset transactions are properly recorded and reconciled to various bank accounts and crypto wallets

  • Coordinate and record transfers and related accounting between various platforms (Spot, Futures, OTC and others) by collaborating with business units, Treasury and Data Engineering teams

  • Lead the Futures and OTC accounting team on monthly and quarterly close to ensure that revenue and related balance sheet are recorded timely and accurately

  • Document internal control policies and procedures on Futures and OTC revenue and provide regular updates 

  • Provide schedules and reconciliation support for financial and regulatory reports and internal and/or external audits 

  • Support the deployment of Futures products to new regions by partnering with the OTC and Futures product and business teams to stay abreast of new product developments and enhancements so that proper accounting treatments can be determined and close and reconciliation procedures can be implemented timely and accurately

  • Identify automation opportunities and actively work with Finance Transformation, Product Engineer, Tax and Regulatory Legal teams to streamline processes to gain greater efficiency and transparency

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountant and financial analysts

  • Set goals, monitor performance, and provide feedback to ensure the professional growth and development of the team

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills you should HODL

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field required

  • Minimum of 7-10 year of experience in audit and/or accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role

  • Collaborative, innovative, flexible, and adept at building relationships across the organization

  • Working  experience from the Big 4 or national accounting firms and/or industry, preferred in Financial Services, Fintech, broker-dealer, banking or exchange 

  • knowledge of US GAAP and experience with SOX

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills

  • Ability to handle and lead multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • Microsoft Excel proficiency including pivot tables, H- & V-Lookup

  • CPA in good standing

  • Experience with high volume transactions

  • Experience using an ERP system such as Netsuite, SAP

  • Knowledge or experience with cryptocurrency (preferred or willingness to learn)

  • Experience and knowledge with SQL
