Pickle room/VFS operator- 1st Shift

Monday-Friday (6:00am – 2:30pm)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Annealing Furnace Operator is responsible for following standard operating procedures to ensure the safe operation of two annealing furnaces including ensuring proper furnace load construction and choosing the proper furnace computer program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates the VFS & 403 computer controlled annealing furnaces.
  • Determines the best configuration for furnace loads considering significant variations of product size, shape, and weight in order to protect the product and the furnace from damage. Enters data into the annealing furnace database. Processes quality control samples as required.
  • Processes intermediate and finished materials through chemical cleaning tanks in the Pickle Room.
  • Enters material movements into SAP, completes all associated quality control paperwork and lot traceability paperwork to assure product is clearly tested and identified.
  • Displays a working knowledge of the vacuum systems on both furnaces, performs vacuum leak detection, and solves vacuum routine problems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and routine preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, safe, and orderly condition on a daily basis by following 5S standard work practices.
  • Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and standard operating procedures to ensure personal safety and high product quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years industrial manufacturing experience using computer databases and driving a fork truck.
  • Requires the ability to follow standard operating procedures and prescribed safety rules in order to maintain high quality standards and safe working conditions.
  • Requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, experience using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, rulers, and tape measures, as well as basic math skills, including fractions and decimals. 
  • Must adhere to strict environmental and safety rules and identify areas for improvement.
  • Expected to work as part of a team, to make good decisions, to anticipate production problems, and to resolve them with some assistance.
  • Knowledge of vacuum equipment is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The position requires a moderate level of physical exertion.  Position is located in a manufacturing environment, exposing the incumbent to machines with movable parts, heat, chemicals, and consequently requires that personal protective equipment be worn.
