A Claims Compliance Paralegal will gather, develop, and analyze compliance data to provide better line of sight into Claims’ compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. This associate will work with a variety of stakeholders to efficiently analyze data from multiple systems. This associate must be an analytical thinker with strong communication skills and excellent presentation skills.

  • Composes and types routine correspondence. Reviews correspondence intended for review/signature for correct punctuation and grammar to assist with compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Prepares and/or files correspondence and other records.
  • Creates and develops presentations and agendas for meetings.
  • Receives, sorts, opens, screens and distributes incoming mail, faxes, mailings and other correspondence. Maintains and secures confidential documents and other correspondence. May maintain client and/or special mailing lists.
  • Performs routine purchasing and reconciliation activities for department, working within established guidelines.
  • Receives and notifies management of incoming telephone call, if applicable. Responds to caller inquiries and provides information or redirects caller when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of Claims compliance
  • Distribute compliance reports to Claims directors and other appropriate stakeholders
  • Oversee or assist with oversight of and preparation for audits by outside regulators
  • Continuously evaluate available processes and tools while collaborating with other disciplines (Claims, Claims Ops, Information Management, Information Technology) to improve compliance and conformance
  • Periodically evaluate business needs for compliance needs; making recommendations
  • Prepare forms and other materials to assist with compliance initiatives
  • Develop and deliver compliance training and training materials
  • Keep abreast of departmental changes that may impact Claims compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to and assist with the implementation of Claims compliance initiatives
  • Maintain an understanding of the business environment, including processes and technology, in order to provide recommendations for compliance improvements
  • Lead departmental and organizational projects

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certification or equivalent work experience

Certification

  • Professional designations a plus

Work Experience

  • At lease 5 years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Insurance industry experience preferred

Skill Sets

  • Advanced to expert in Microsoft applications (2010 versions: Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with Adobe, document review and redactions
  • Superior grammar, writing, organization and communication skills.  Strong attention to detail is essential.
