Position Summary:
The European Mid-Market invested from its first vintage 2019 (€1bn) over four years into 15 businesses, and has now raised its second fund which will be double the size. The increase in fund size is reflective of the strong Fund I portfolio performance and strong realisations achieved.
The Mid-Market team has and is growing quickly and will consists of 19 employees today, with dedicated deal team members in UK, France, Germany, Italy and the Nordics. The UK part of the team will comprise of 10 following this hire, the head of the fund also sits in the UK. You would also be part of the wider ICG UK Structured and Private Equity team with a further eleven team members investing from our Large Cap fund (Europe Fund VIII, EUR 7bn+ committed capital). We also work closely with an aligned Special Opportunities fund, which is also London based, consisting of five further team members.
The role involves actively supporting the origination, diligence, execution, and monitoring of European fund investments in the UK & Ireland. At this level, you are expected to support the team on a transaction through financial modelling, business analysis, synthesis of information, coordination of workstreams as required and production of written materials (PowerPoint presentation, investment committee memoranda, meeting notes amongst others). Deal teams typically comprise an MD, an Associate Director or Manager and an Associate. Therefore, there is a strong opportunity for you to take on responsibility and engage fully with the majority of aspects of deal-making and investing.
Primary Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
Deal execution
Support deal team on forming an investment thesis.
Helping to undertake financial and commercial analysis to support a thesis and address identified risks.
Leading the modelling, both of operating modelling scenarios and different capital structure overlays.
Digest and help shape findings from sell-side due diligence, particularly financial and commercial.
Scope and help drive targeted buy-side due diligence.
Assess the achievability of management’s plan.
Creating papers for Investment Committee discussions.
Drive work streams which help complete transactions including funds flow, tax structuring and short-term cash flows.
Value creation and portfolio management
Drive identified post deal actions.
Helping to capture and assess value creation activities.
Assisting with bolt-on targeting and execution, working collaboratively with our investee management teams.
Helping monitor monthly financial progress.
Support the ICG team with internal valuations, reporting and exit planning.
Origination
Helping identify and research potential platform targets.
Organise and participate in calls to gain early market insight.
Attend adviser meetings with bankers and strategy consultants to early build knowledge of opportunities.
Helping to actively think about and drive angels around opportunities.
Key Requirements/ Qualifications:
Proven experience in roles which have provided exposure to either M&A transactions or strategy work.
Financial or commercial transaction due diligence, strategy consulting, investment banking backgrounds or foundations would be expected.
Buy-side experience would be a plus, particularly from a private debt, private equity and growth. orientated asset management environments.
Interest in working across geographies.
Fluent English required, other European language capabilities would be an advantage.
High proficiency with Microsoft Excel would be expected.
