Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Closing date:  20th March 2026

We encourage early applications, as vacancies may close once we receive sufficient applications.

We are looking for experienced consultants with a background in mission engineering or operational modelling & simulation to join our modelling team and contribute to developing our mission engineering services.

If you enjoy using your skills to help defence and civilian organisations prepare and plan for successful missions. If you can apply the latest technology to solve future problems. If you can innovate to make the world a safer place. Then you may have the skills we are looking for.

Job Description:

At Frazer-Nash we combine deep domain expertise, robust systems engineering principles and the latest digital technologies to help clients to make better evidence-based decisions, faster, and with confidence. You will join the modelling team to work on projects applying the mission engineering approach to combine systems engineering, modelling, simulation, data science, and operating domain expertise.

Mission engineering focuses on achieving organisational goals, by applying robust analytical techniques to decision-making, and considering the whole system. This requires a deep understanding of the client’s domain, awareness of appropriate techniques and robust problem structuring. This perspective is key to our values of being trusted to deliver success.

Our modelling teams support clients with the following services:

  • Operational modelling, simulation & optimisation

  • Future and novel concept R&D and assessment

  • RF and EW physics modelling

  • Operational research and operational analysis

  • Decision optimisation under uncertainty

  • Developing AI decision-making systems

  • Decision science and decision support tools

The team is highly collaborative, often working closely with experts in requirements, systems engineering, software development, and those with operational experience.

Recent projects include:

  • Developing a new fast-running medium-fidelity battle model and plan optimiser to provide analysts with a step change improvement in the speed of decision-making. Working with two partners to deliver a brand-new capability to MVP in 9 months.

  • Building an aircraft carrier sortie generation optimiser to support flight deck operational planning. Working with internal and client subject matter experts to encode operational constraints within the optimiser.

  • Delivery of a proof-of-concept study into generation after next AI-based maritime defence systems for Dstl. Integrating naval fleet defence algorithms, targeting and tracking models into a bespoke simulation environment.

  • Simulation-based experimentation into new communication techniques to support a future maritime air defence capability. Co-ordinating with partners to integrate algorithms and communication models into an existing synthetic environment, undertaking scenario-based feasibility analyses and reporting on operational capability.

  • Development of a renewable energy spatial planning and optimisation platform to maximise the value of the UK seabed while meeting UK Net Zero targets. Refining a conceptual model integration design, implementing new energy project planning models, and integrating existing models.

You will also have the chance to get involved in our other consultancy market sectors including energy, major infrastructure, transport, and civil nuclear.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who can bring diversity of thought and fresh ideas, alongside their understanding of model integration methodologies to help clients to address their most complex challenges.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have held technical responsibility for delivery of large (5+ people, > 1 year) modelling, simulation, or operational research projects to solve complex challenges.

  • Have demonstrable experience designing appropriate technical solutions and delivery approaches to deliver projects spanning the modelling & simulation lifecycle, through problem definition, conceptual modelling, computational modelling and verification & validation.

  • Have experience leading engagements with senior stakeholders, covering problem elicitation, conceptual model development, solution design and presentation of findings.

  • Are experienced at developing service offerings to clients and writing winning proposals.

Additional beneficial experience includes those who:

  • Have applied the mission engineering approach and/or its principles.

  • Have a depth of knowledge in one of Frazer-Nash’s market sectors or key clients.

  • Have experience integrating different models to answer higher level questions, both conceptually (e.g. MBSE) and computationally (e.g. DIS, HLA).

  • Have contributed to an organisation’s continuous improvement, actively contributing to the development of others through mentoring, knowledge sharing and thought leadership.

Fundamentally, we want people with a passion for developing effective solutions to some of society's biggest challenges.  Even if you don't quite fit our criteria above (perhaps you have other interesting or broad experience), we would love to hear from you if you think that you could deliver effective solutions to the types of projects mentioned above.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.

We provide our people with an excellent benefit and offering package that comprises:
