Associate/Senior Associate – Management Consulting

Los Angeles, New York, or Washington, D.C.

ABOUT RCLCO

Since 1967, RCLCO Real Estate Consulting has been the “first call” for real estate developers, investors, public institutions, and non-real estate companies seeking strategic and tactical advice regarding property investment, planning, and development. RCLCO leverages quantitative analytics and a strategic planning framework to provide end-to-end business planning and implementation solutions at an entity, portfolio, or project level.

RCLCO is headquartered in Washington, D.C. with offices in Los Angeles, Austin, Orlando, Denver, and New York City. Our team comes from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, though everyone shares a passion for real estate and the built environment.

ABOUT the MANAGEMENT CONSULTING team

Working within the Management Consulting team at RCLCO provides an incomparable education in real estate. Members of this practice group have a hand in directing how real estate companies make long-term decisions about their enterprises. By working with real estate companies across all geographies, sectors, and stages of growth, team members develop a deep understanding of the different players in the industry, capital markets and how capital flows through the industry, market analysis and how to identify properties in which to invest, and how organizations and teams are structured effectively. Each client engagement provides the opportunity to peel back the layers of an organization, immerse yourself in its operations, think creatively about potential futures, and help clients grapple with fascinating, real-world issues.

The small but growing Management Consulting team leverages RCLCO’s resources and its 57-year history working with real estate companies, bringing a unique lens to its engagements relative to any other consulting firm in the space.

Management Consulting client engagements can involve any number of strategic priorities, including:

  • Strategic Planning: Evaluate a company’s current state, help define a desired future state, and chart different paths from A to B
  • Portfolio Strategy: Determine where to invest and in what types of properties
  • Capital Strategy: Weigh different options funding those investments
  • Organizational Strategy: Build a platform and structure an organization to execute a strategy effectively
  • Compensation Consulting: Incentivize team performance and craft competitive compensation plans
  • Executive Search: Identify and hire key leaders to carry out strategic plans

Case studies of our work can be found throughout RCLCO’s website.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

After going through initial onboarding, Associates/Senior Associates join our consulting team and work directly on client engagements alongside senior firm leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with a project director to establish and maintain relationships with client stakeholders; provide regular updates to the client team on project status
  • Gather and organize data, analyze trends, and construct financial models; develop hypotheses and test them through existing or bespoke methodologies
  • Participate in discovery interviews with client stakeholders to understand an organization’s context and strategic issues
  • Synthesize findings from client data and interviews to frame up key strategic issues
  • Think critically to assess strategic alternatives
  • Prepare presentations to communicate key findings and recommendations to clients
  • Track project scope, schedule, and budget as the project manager or in conjunction with the project manager
  • Develop, incorporate, and expand RCLCO’s current research methodologies to elevate the quality of deliverables
  • Support internal firm initiatives as needed, including business development and intellectual property production

Associates typically lead the day-to-day execution of our assignments, whereas Senior Associates serve as project managers. The appropriate title will be determined based on candidate experience.

Our team enjoys a hybrid work model (2-3 days in office each week), continued variety in project work, strong training and professional development support, a close-knit culture built on intellectual curiosity and collaboration, and a robust benefits package, which includes: employee healthcare that is 100% paid by the employer, parking/commuting benefits, cell phone stipends, professional development, generous paid time off, wellness days, employee resource groups, parental leave, back-up care (childcare, pet care, senior care), an annual companywide retreat, in-office lunches and events, paid time off to volunteer, and more.

DESIRED PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • You like big picture, “blue sky” thinking and often throw ideas against the wall to see what sticks

  • You’re an analytical thinker with social savvy. You’re comfortable doing focused, independent work and also enjoy collaborating with a team and communicating face-to-face with clients
  • You’re passionate about research, analysis, and problem-solving
  • You pay attention to details and care about the accuracy of your work

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
