As the Vacuum Engine Experiment (VEEx) Test Engineering manager of a hardworking and accomplished team of rocket engine test engineers, you will set technical direction, build team members to support current and future program needs, be responsible for employee life cycle including hiring, performance management, training and providing tools for career development. You will help to improve technical processes, best practices, and tool development around focused areas of test planning, execution, and development cycles.  

In addition to the personnel manager responsibilities, you will provide direct technical support to multiple programs as an individual contributor (40% manager, 60% individual contributor). You will support testing, review test data, support Data Reviews and Test Readiness Reviews, support anomaly investigations and root cause analysis to drive corrective actions and hardware improvements.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering  
  • 2+ years of experience in liquid rocket engine testing, requirements, and specification  
  • Proven track record leading teams  
  • Experience overseeing, guiding, and mentoring fellow engineers 
  • Desire to work in a cooperative, fast paced, and dynamic environment  
  • Manage personnel at the VEEx test stand to include recruiting, training, coaching, mentoring, developing, and retaining talent at VEEx by following and developing performance management processes
  • Promote teamwork, employee engagement, and good employee morale
  • Be an exemplar of Blue Leadership Principles, focusing on demonstrating operational excellence
  • Maintain employee training and development records
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Understanding of engines components such as turbopumps, combustion chambers, injectors, regulators, check valves, as well as electric, pneumatic and hydraulic valves, actuators and other fluid system components  
  • Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time  
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion  
  • Assist in the preparation of Program Monthly Review, Monthly Activity Report, Weekly Status and Daily Progress Checks to help communicate inwards and outwards across the organization
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum  

Desired:  

  • M.S. degree or higher 
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Familiarity with rocket engine system operations, verification process and risk management  
  • Experience with anomaly investigations  
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices  
  • Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets 
  • Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples and accelerometers  
  • Understanding of a variety of rocket propellants including cryogenic propellants
