A Day in the Life

In this role, you will lead the advancement of cardiovascular physiological modeling and simulation capabilities within our Bakken Research Center. You will work closely with cross-functional Medtronic teams to identify and address technical challenges, ensuring robust support for product development and innovation. Establishing collaborations with external expertise centers is a key part of this position, enabling access to cutting-edge research and fostering knowledge exchange.

The working set-up is primarily based in Maastricht, The Netherlands, with flexibility for hybrid arrangements and occasional travel to partner organisations or conferences. Reporting to the Research Director, you will contribute to the ongoing development of Medtronic’s cardiovascular technology portfolio, including cardiovascular modelling, clinical translation and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Set up and lead an expertise centre focused on cardiovascular physiological modeling and simulation to drive innovative research and development
  • Identify and address the specific needs of R&D organisations across business units to ensure robust support for technology development
  • Expand strategic collaborations with external modeling expertise centres to foster knowledge exchange and integrate cutting-edge research
  • Act as a liaison with the artificial intelligence (AI) centre of expertise to enable advanced data-driven modeling solutions
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for modeling, simulation and digital twin technologies to enhance the research centre’s capabilities

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or a related field, with a minimum of two years' relevant experience.
  • Proven expertise in in-silico (computer-based) modeling and simulation of physiological processes.
  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration and strategy development in research environments is beneficial but not essential
