The Portfolio Management Office (PMO) at the GSK Ware Manufacturing Site (in Hertfordshire) is responsible for the planning and completion of specific site projects (as defined by the Site Leadership Team).  The Portfolio Management Office works to ensure that these projects are delivered to the required level of quality, in the appropriate timescales and within budget.

Job Purpose:

Working directly for the PMO Programme Manager, the purpose of this role is to provide Project Management expertise for identified projects at the Ware manufacturing (Pharma Supply Chain) site.  As a key member of the Portfolio Management Office (PMO) you will ensure the planning and completion of projects are to the required level of quality, as well as to the defined time scale and costs.

Key Responsibilities (include delivery of all aspects of project initiation, planning authorization, implementation and close-out as part of the project lifecycle):

  • Delivery of projects within timelines, to authorized budgets, scope and quality (including preparation of contingency and recovery plans).

  • Diligent and appropriate use of formal Project Management tools and techniques to manage complex risks, issues and changes (and acts with urgency to implement plans to ensure monitoring).  This includes assisting PMO colleagues (and other business resources) to identify, track and manage inter-project dependencies.

  • Education and training of team members in Project and Programme Management tools and techniques (to ensure understanding and buy-in).

  • Manage or assist with the creation and development of MS Project based linked schedules, cost estimates, resource estimates and project planning documentation.

  • Providing communication (including reports) on project progress at governance meetings, and escalation (where appropriate) to Programme Managers, customers and governance teams.  This extends to preparing presentations for stake-holders and staff to communicate project progress and impact effectively.

Fixed Term Contract (FTC) – It is expected that this Fixed Term Contract will last circa 18-months.

About You:

This role would suit a self-motivated person who has experience of working in a cross-functional, global supply organisation.  You will have strong project planning experience in large scale projects.  You will be resilient and calm under pressure, with strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve and drive performance.  You will have a strong continuous improvement mindset and have strong demonstrable organisational skills. Good communication skills in all formats (written, oral, presentation).

About Ware Manufacturing Site:

Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form, and the site has circa 1,500 highly-motivated and capable people working at it.  The Ware site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in oral and solid dose forms, as well as operating a high-volume commercial production for respiratory devices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant Project Planning operational / manufacturing experience / qualifications (ideally with Membership of appropriate professional body and/or Project Planning/Management qualification)

  • Knowledge / experience of Microsoft Project software

  • Knowledge / experience in the use of Microsoft Office software (particularly Excel)
