The Team:

The Financial Institutions team is an integral part of S&P Global Ratings success. The team is responsible for maintaining credit ratings on high profile Financial Institutions in Australia and New Zealand. The team works closely with global colleagues and is part of a wider group which includes Sovereign and International Public Finance and Insurance analysts.  

The team is comprised of 17 analysts based in Melbourne and Sydney offices led by the Analytical Manager, Financial Service and Government Ratings – Pacific

As part of the Financial Institutions team, you will join a collegial and professional team of analysts that work on credits across Australia and New Zealand.

You will be a senior analyst in the team covering a portfolio of Australian and New Zealand financial institutions. Working closely under the direction of Director level Lead Analysts in the team, you will be a primary analyst to analyze information including financial statements, write high-quality reports for investors, demonstrate your analytical insight to internal and external audiences in an international working environment. Your role may include exposure to Australian and New Zealand major banks over time. Additionally, there will be opportunity to contribute to industry research and participate in internal projects and working groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside senior analysts to maintain a portfolio of credit ratings initially focusing on New Zealand local councils, but with opportunities to broaden your expertise into other asset classes such as universities, social housing providers, state governments, and sovereigns, over time.
  • Collect and critically analyze economic, financial, and budget information.
  • Maintain spreadsheets, databases, and cash flow models.
  • Meet and confidently interact with C-suite level executives.
  • Work closely with senior analysts to prepare materials for rating committees and publications to disseminate our ratings on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrate service excellence when dealing with external and internal stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

  • An employee at this level typically has 3-5 years of experience in macroeconomic or financial analysis.
  • Ideally suited for candidates with experience in credit analysis and research or background in equity research
  • Bachelor’s degree with studies in economics, business, or similar fields. CFA certification is a plus.
  • A demonstrated interest in credit analysis and research.
  • Sound knowledge of financial statement analysis and accounting concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ability to manipulate large datasets, cash flow and credit models.
  • Strong work ethic and capacity to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to work to deadlines and to multitask.
  • Pursuing CFA designation or a Master’s degree is desirable, but not essential.
  • Domestic and international travel will be required.
